Chapter 11 by braunackerman1

Does Mallory leave?

Yes

Mallory felt uneasy. Even now in her own home evidence of what had happened still found her. The milky liquid dripping down from the counter tops kept her from finding a sense of comfort. Her house was too quiet anyway. She couldn’t hear anyone, nobody was here most likely, she should have guessed that her family would have fled anyway when the zombies invaded her neighborhood.

“There’s no point in being here,” Mallory thought to herself, “I should just leave now while I still have the chance.”

So Mallory walked back out of her kitchen, through the hallway, and out of the front door. Mallory planned to just walk now to Miles’s house. She would be safer outside anyway, where she couldn’t get surprised by any zombies waiting around corners. Mallory began a brisk jog down the road when she heard the moans. Two male zombies burst out of her front door and charged at her. Mallory broke into a full on sprint in the direction of Miles’s house. She had no idea where these zombies had come from, but she was glad she had gotten out of her house when she had.

As Mallory continued to run, she glanced back over her shoulder at her pursuers. The male zombies were defiantly running faster than she was, however their lust induced state was causing them to run erratically. Mallory watched as one of them rammed their shoulder into a garbage can and stumble. A few seconds later the other one tripped over seemingly nothing, falling to the ground. Each time they fell they got back up within seconds to continue their chase, however their instability gave Mallory an idea. Mallory turned, running off the road and instead into one of the house’s backyard. She began running parallel to the road through backyards. As she did this Mallory tipped over chairs, tables and potted plants, creating obstacles that tripped up her pursuers.

Mallory vaulted over a fence into a back yard that bordered Miles’s street. Mallory now returned to the road, as she had created enough distance between her and the zombies that she now wanted to take the fastest route to the house. As Mallory turned the bend onto Miles street, she could see signs of the virus there as well.

Puddles of white liquid could be seen all the way down the road. As Mallory continued running, she passed a blue house with an open suitcase in its driveway. The contents of the suitcase, mostly clothes were spilled around, left over from someone’s hasty escape. Farther down the road , Mallory found an suv sitting in the middle of the road. It had two doors open and white liquid seeping out from inside. It seemed the drivers of this car hadn’t been so lucky when making their escape.

Finally by now Mallory had made it to the cul-de-sac at the end of the road. She recognized the black house with white trim as being Mile’s. As She approached it, Mallory saw Miles come out of the front door, carrying a box to the car.

“Time to go!” Mallory yelled as she ran up the drive way.

Miles turned confused towards her, but understood the situation as soon as he saw the zombies chasing her. Dropping the box to the ground, Miles grabbed his keys and jumped in the car. Mallory threw open the passenger side door and climbed in the car as well. Miles managed to lock the car just as the zombies reached the car. They pounded on the windows trying to get in, but Miles backed down the driveway and drove off.

Mallory and Miles sat in the car in silence for a minute, Mallory breathing heavily from her chase. Mike’s turned out of his neighborhood and down towards the main road through town. Nothing had been said yet. Both Mallory and Miles needed a moment to process the once again near **** experience they had experienced. Eventually Mallory decided she needed to speak up.

“I didn’t find anything, you?” she asked.

“Nothing at all, I was grabbing some supplies from my house, just about to go back to your place when you came running in,” Miles responded.

“So what now?” Mallory asked Miles.

Miles didn’t have an answer so he stayed silent. The car was driving through a section of woods and he was eyeing either side of the road, waiting for a group of zombies to jump out from behind the trees to ambush them. Looking up ahead Miles saw someone. It was a girl. She was about 800 meters ahead of the car, and from what Miles could see didn’t seem to be infected. From his experience at least the infected didn’t seem to wear as much clothing as this girl was.

“Look,” Miles said, pointing out the girl to Mallory, “Should we stop for her?”

The car was rapidly approaching the girl as Mallory thought about her answer.

Do they stop?
