Ellen was starting to get dizzy. The dream logic of this whole conversation combined with Rob's abrupt change of... change of what? Mind? Heart? Whatever it was, it was throwing her seriously off balance.

Fog. She was blanketed in fog. Where was she? She looked around. Nothing in any direction. This is fine. She sought out her panic. The part of her telling her to run. It was gone.

Who was she? It doesn't matter. And it didn't. It was good. She was good. She felt good, because she was good. Ellen. Ellen was good.

As these truths came to her, she felt her feet give out. She fell backwards into the mist. Ellen was floating, and it was good. She saw into the hearts of people. Good. She loved them as herself. Good.

She saw the troubles of this world. She saw her life laid out in front of her. Every bad thing. Every sin committed, every hurt and harm, every scar. Nothing. These disappeared into the fog. They were nothing. They were breath on glass. They were the last wisp of smoke from a dying ember.

She saw the great river of humanity, living and dead. A current inside of it. A small warm flow. It was Ellen. She loved it. She saw it moving downstream, water on all sides. Rob. Another current. Cynthia. Another current. Joel. Another current.

Ellen looked into the light at the source of the stream, and understood.
