Chapter 4 by tavvie tavvie

Does Casey help?

Yes

"Yeah, yeah of course." Casey said, adjusting his glasses slightly. The guy in the doorway looked relived by his answer and nodded gratefully. "Would you? That'd be amazing!"

"Sure thing." Casey rolled from his bed, pocketing his phone and standing. He reached out a hand. "I'm Casey but, just call me Cass." The dark haired boy grinned widely. "Lucas . Nice to meet you, Cass." Lucas awkwardly shook Cass' hand. Casey quickly grabbed at one of the many bags weighing Lucas down and placed it on the floor. "You can leave your stuff here while we have a look around, ya know." He offered. The other boy nodded gratefully, unloading most of his stuff. "Thanks so much." Cass offered a small smile and leading them out into the dorms. "Don't mention it. Where should we start?"

Lucas and Casey wondered along, keeping their eyes peeled and close to the ground. "So, Cass. What are you studying?" Lucas asked, smiling over. "Uhmm, Political Science. International relations. That sorta thing." Casey spoke absentmindedly, counting his way along the doors and making sure they kept track of where they'd looked "What about you?"

"I'm a bit of a history buff, you know. So, that, really, ancient history. Howl's got a crazy good course for it and a world renowned Professor leading it. So I figured, why not here right?" Lucas almost tripped on a rogue strap dangling from a bag left in the way by a door. Casey glanced at him, offering a slight smile. "Yeah, their pretty good all round here. Every course seems to either lead the way or is a top five." He kept his eyes open, scanning the floor. "Now, where did you look?" He asked, a little quizzical. "It has to be here somewhere. I came straight to my room." Lucas ran a hand through his hair, letting out a large sigh. "Tried asking the front desk?" Cass offered, shrugging. "They were a little busy. Can let me in but can't give me another key right now." Casey nodded. "So, erh, have you always wanted to come to Howl?" Lucas asked. Cass blinked, nodding in a distracted way. "Yeah, I mean, I guess? Ever since I started looking for places anyway. Not like I've been dreaming of it since I was a kid." Lucas laughed, an expression Cass couldn't make out flashing across his face. "My parents basically had an alter to this place. They both studied here. Met here in fact. Never let another option be a thing really." His voice was flat but Casey decided not to pry, sensing a little more. "Where are you from then? In state or?" Cass asked, changing the subject. "Oh, East coast. New York, or a place just outside of there anyway. You?"

"Down south, originally Texas but I grew up near Richmond." Casey felt a slight pang of home sickness just mentioning it. It was the first time he had been away from home without his parents. "Come on. Lets keep looking." He said, focusing back on the floor.

The two boys carried on their search, slowly working through the dorms and back along Lucas' path. They asked a few others but most were occupied with their own move in. Eventually they found a helpful looking student called Kate who offered to give them a hand. They found the the old looking key in the stairwell, partly hidden under a small table with a plant perched atop it. How it had come to go from Lucas' pocket to there, Casey didn't know. But they had it back and soon enough had Lucas into his room. It was much the same as Casey's, if a little smaller. He helped Lucas get his bags moved before giving him a small nod.

"That's all of it I think." Casey said, dropping the last of the bags onto the floor. Lucas grinned widely at him. "Thanks, Cass. I really appreciate it. Not too many were here to help so, thanks." Casey smiled, pushing his glasses up "No problem. I'll catch you round, Lucas."

"Definitely. If you wanna hangout some time. You know where I'm at."

With that, Casey headed back to his room. A small smiled tugged at his lips. Least he had one friend by the looks of it.

What now?
