Chapter 7 by yent yent

Does she attend the orientation?

Yes, she attends the orientation

Izzy made a face. This orientation seemed like the kind of preppy thing she normally avoided. Still, she didn’t want to be the only student in the res building who didn’t know anyone, so might as well attend. Besides, this would mark the start of frosh week, which Izzy figured would be her best chance to get laid.

The common room was a large rectangular space which reminded Izzy somewhat of her high school’s gymnasium, at least in terms of size and shape. The contents were more unique. There were a group of couches clustered around a large TV, a few tables covered in laminate tablecloth, some vending machines, and a couple ping pong tables, though sans balls or paddles as far as Izzy could see.

Izzy had arrived a little bit early, but there was already a gaggle of other first-years assembling, with a few of the RAs that she was now starting to recognize mixed in.

Well, Izzy thought. I guess it wouldn’t kill me to mingle a bit…

It’s not that she was anti-social, she was just… well… okay, maybe a little anti-social. Izzy liked people; she liked hanging out with friends. It was just that, well, things like meeting new people or making small talk with strangers were boring at best, intimidating at worst.

She contemplated staying near the doorway and just playing on her phone until the meeting started. That seemed like a hell of a fast way to get a reputation as a loner, though. She needed people to know her at least well enough to invite her to parties, and that wouldn't happen if nobody thought she wanted to be approached. Sighing, she joined the slowly growing crowd.

How does she interact?
