Chapter 6 by vertigo vertigo

Do I trust Vulca enough to travel with her?

Yes, for now...

"I don't know the area, so it would be silly to travel without a guide, but I don't trust you. You stay in front and keep your bloody hands to yourself."

"That's fair," Vulca's expression as she spoke told me everything, and I instantly regretted my tone. It was clear to see she felt remorse, and my words must of added to the sting of guilt.

I was angry, ****, and had never felt more violated in my life. I was justified in my feelings! Yet the moment she had mentioned it was the result of her curse, I couldn't help but wonder how helpless and violated she must of felt when my own curse took hold. It left a vile taste in my mouth.

"Lead on then, if you would Vulca. Please."

"My pleasure." She said with a weak smile as she effortlessly recovered her massive sword off the ground and swung it over her shoulder.

What followed was probably the most awkward hour of my life, as we traveled in silence. The woodland was dense and hard to see, made even harder by the low light as it drew late into the evening. Yet, oddly I could still make out my immediate surroundings up to a point. It was like I had suddenly developed cats eyes.

"First time with dark vision? You'll get use to it. Takes a while to develop, so watch your step, but eventually you should be able to see further out with practice."

"I guess that means you have it too?"

Most of the different humanoid species on this world do, except for regular humans. Always found it odd until I learned about the first ones."

"The first ones?" I asked in confusion. "You mentioned them before."

"It's a long story, but suffice to say we are not the only ones to be reincarnated into this world."

I wasn't sure what to make of this information. It certainly rewrote my entire concept of the afterlife, but I had a feeling that was still only scratching the surface. "So you've met a lot of people that originally came from our world?"

"Only a hand full, you included. Most of what I know is from learning this worlds history. There are many books and legends about transferree's like us."

"Wait, so people like us are known about and even documented by the people in this world?"

"Yip. Turns out the gods use this place as a sort of dumping ground for human souls. Not really the heaven you were expecting, is it?"

"Maybe it's hell and this is all one big cosmic joke?" There was no holding back the venom in my words. A sick joke was indeed what this felt like. I wondered if the goddess was looking down on me right now, laughing.

"It can be, if you let it."

That response shook me. Suddenly the orc woman looked a lot more human as she led the way through the trees. "S-so, you said you're originally from London; I've never been myself. What's it like?"

"Honestly I don't remember it much. It's been so long since I thought about my old life. I'm surprised I still remember my old name some days. I wasn't just reincarnated, I was born into this world. You should have been too, if that divine bint had done her job right."

"But then how did you find me, or even know I was a...a...transferree?" This question made her stop and turn with a smile. Vulca's eye started to glow for a brief moment, then she thumbed her nose, looking proud of herself.

"Detection and Identification, the only bits of magic I'm actually any good at. As to how I found you, there was no missing the light show that lit up the forest when you arrived."

"I don't think I was awake for that part. I might of also landed on my head. The pain was killing me earlier."

"Yip, just like the first ones before you, but we should talk about that somewhere more private. You might not want to mentioned to anyone else who you are. Transferree's and their divine gifts are highly sought-after and coveted by the powers that govern this world."

"When in Rome, as they say. But I haven't the first clue what elves in this world are like. I'll probably stick out like a sore thumb regardless."

"Only among other elves. They tend to be slightly xenophobic and keep to themselves. You should be fine if you don't draw attention to yourself."

"So wear a hood, is basically what you're saying?" I roll my eyes.

"At least its just the ears you have to worry about. Try having green skin and two tusks sticking out of your bottom lip."

"I think most would be too busy staring at your tits. Seriously, aren't you at least a bit cold, or worried about the girls flapping freely? Mine are held in by this dress, but every step still feels like I'm risking a black eye."

"Hahaha, oh, honey, you are adorable. I can tell you were originally a man in your first life even if you hadn't told me your name." I'll admit it was nice to hear Vulca laugh, even if it was at my expense. Seeing her happy eased the tension between us and, oddly enough, made me feel a little lighter on my feet as well. "But to answer your question, it's my orc blood. We run hot, makes wearing clothes and armour difficult and uncomfortable. As for having my tits out, tha-...wait...Over there! Behind the bushes!"

What does Vulca see?
