Yes, but they can’t keep the door open.

As I was about to tell her to follow me I heard the groan of metal resonate from the door leading out of the bunker. With my eyes widening in panic I could barely squeak out about the steel slab closing. My hand stung out as Sarah turned to see the fading light from outside.

The door was shut. I could only stare in shock as the reality dawned on me that our exit was gone. “No.” I breathed.

Sarah’s shrill squeak peeped out too late after the door slammed shut.

A moment passed in silence.

Then another.

And another as to both of us it was like our own heart rates were the loudest things in the room. My phone light was the only way I could see the panic on Sarah’s face and the despair in her eyes. “What do we do?” Sarah peeped out. Her voice squeaky with terror.

The door was closed. The only way out just closed. We could only go deeper.

With a gulp I could only bargain with myself, reasoning about a potential for another exit of the bunker. “C’mon.” I said, trying to hide my sheer terror. Grabbing her hand as we walked to the door leading deeper into the bunker.
