Chapter 17 by thesuperman90 thesuperman90

Do the Tigers pull it off and win?

Yes, but not without a cost.

As the ball made its way from the center to the quarterback, both Sean and Chris burst out of their places with a ferocity matched by only that of a real Tiger. Chris was nearly growling as he blew past his block and took the extra three steps to the unsuspecting quarterback, tackling him perfectly... just has he let loose a pass.

The crowd's eyes followed the ball to where it would have gone, had Sean not jumped up high and intercepted the ball with his large hands. When he hit the ground, he did it running and with his powerful legs pumping the last few yards into the end zone. As he turned around he saw the whole field behind him and everyone was cheering. He'd done it again.

Twice in a row was not a miracle any longer. It was where his preparation, standing jumps and hard work paid off and he was able to score six points. The remaining plays of the game consisted of a two-point conversion which failed, and the kickoff to the visiting team. As the final few seconds ticked off, Sean was doused with ice water and the whole team cheered for him.

After the game there was a quick shower, and change into his nice clothes for the Homecoming dance. As this was not prom the guys were not expected to attend with tuxedos, nor were the girls expected to have formal dresses, but that didn't stop them from looking nice.

Sean wore a pair of blue jeans, nice black dress shoes, a royal blue dress shirt (untucked), and a dark red suit coat. He styled his hair quickly and headed out towards the gym to start tonight's festivities. The gym was all decked out in cityscape decorations for their theme for this year: 'Out on the Town'. Yeah it was cheesy, but the cheer squad had done a perfect job of setting everything up.

When he entered the gym, he found a Brad and a few other football players huddled in the corner. Sean approached with a smile, but that faded when he saw the look on Chris' face, "What's wrong guys?"

They all looked to Sean and shook their heads dismally, "Greg's hurt pretty bad man. The doctor's don't think he will ever play football again."

All the color drained from Sean's face. The joy in his heart stopped dead, as it felt wrong to feel so happy about something when it had cost someone else's future. Chris, Brad, and the others saw his reaction and clapped him on the back.

"It wasn't your fault man," Brad said, "Greg knew the risks of playing this game."

Sean's eyes went to Chris', who was looking pretty damn embarrassed, but it was easily disguised in his sorrow for his friend. Brad continued, "Some of us are going to ditch the dance and head to the hospital to see him."

Sean nodded and looked up to Brad's eyes, "Sure. I definitely understand." He looked around, "I feel like you guys know him way better than me, should I come too, or should I stay here?"

What is the consensus?
