Does Druuna take the chance and try to kill the men?
Yes, and it pays off
Whatever risk that attacking the three drunken raiders caused was far outweighed by the rewards that it would bring, in emotional as well as practical terms, should she succeed. Thus, Druuna fidgeted with her gun to make sure that the safety was off, understanding how utterly idiotic it would be of her to storm into the cabin and press the trigger without anything happening.
Sneaking up to the rickety door, Druuna spent a moment inhaling long and deep and steadying her nerves before forcing it inwards until it slammed into the wall next to it.
Her forceful entry aroused the attention of those two raiders who were conscious in some form or shape, but neither of them was sober enough to rise to their feet or grab their guns without struggling to get their legs out from under the table first, and so Druuna got off the first shot.
It was not a very precise shot, Druuna had had much experience in using firearms of any sort before that night, but it proved good enough to hit the short, squat man in his right shoulder and causing him to produce something sounding like a composite of a yelp and a burp.
Carson meanwhile banged both of his knees into the table, with the result being that he slumped back into his chair and could only offer Druuna a snarl while he struggled to draw the gun that he carried tucked into the lining of his trousers.
Druuna was not impressed by Carlson?s variety of hateful facial expressions, and shot him once, hitting him in the chest, following up on her hit by shooting a hole in the window behind Carson, although that wasn?t intentional.
The knocked-out marauder remained slumped down in his chair, proving to be so intoxicated from the contents of the booze jugs spread out on the table between them that not even a fire fight could rouse him from his sleep.
The stocky raider which Druuna had shot first had now managed to stumble up on his feet, and she responded to this by firing the fourth of the nine bullets in the gun, scoring a hit just below the man?s knee.
Advancing a few into the cabin, the raven haired Druuna halted and aimed her gun at the sleeping boozer before shooting him squarely in the chest.
The raider whom Druuna had shot twice was now whimpering as he lay splayed out on the floor, pools of blood forming beneath him from his multiple wounds.
Stopping just a foot away from him, Druuna used her sixth shot to create a tiny hole in the man?s throat, causing his whimpers to turn into a sickly gagging noise as he began **** on his own blood.
Now only Carson remained, and Druuna found him to be squirming on the floor, fumbling with one arm after a rifle which was leaned against a simply crafted shelf only a few inches out of his reach.
Druuna?s seventh shot struck Carson in the belly, and after that she was confident that he was too badly damaged to resist her and so she felt safe to grab the rifle which he had been slowly crawling towards.
Dropping her pistol on the table, Druuna cracked open the double-barrelled rifle to make sure that both of its barrels were loaded, and after noting that they were she kicked Carson?s feet apart.
Carson screamed with a shrill voice when Druuna used the rifle to reduce his right foot to a bloody pulp, but made little noise when his left foot was given the same treatment.
Ignoring Carson since she had gotten her **** on him for beating, **** and threatening her, Druuna laid the shotgun across the table and picked up her gun again.
Scurrying up to the door, Druuna listened for noises of anyone approaching the cabin, trying to fade out Carson?s horrified groans and the ringing in her ears from all the gunfire.
Does she hear anything?
