Chapter 6 by Sage of Ice Sage of Ice

Does Kate have another plan? If so, does this one work any better?

Yes, and it goes much better

"Double or nothing," Kate demanded with a smirk on her face, managing not to show the slightest hint of a blush.

"What, another bet?" Lucy laughed this time, "Don't have much more to lose," she said, smiling at Kate while Cassy thoroughly enjoyed this contest.

"I still got a shirt, and it isn't covering much that my apron doesn't," Kate shrugged, "so, do you accept?"

"With the streak you are having, sure!" Lucy said, sticking out her hand again. Kate accepted it quickly. "So, what is your bet this time?"

"I bet..." Kate thought hard. What could she bet on now? "I bet someone will come in soon," she finished, sounding strangely confident.

Lucy glanced back at the clock, then back out the window. Too late for breakfast, too early for lunch, and still pouring outside. "No chance!" Lucy said.

"So..." Cassy managed to say through her laughter, "Double or nothing? Guess that means the loser wears nothing but their apron, and the winner gets...?" Cassy trailed off.

"The entire pile of clothes!" Kate declared, "including the loser's shirt and pants."

"Works for me," Lucy said.

"So, how long is soon?" Cassy asked, looking at her underwear in the pile and then her two friends.

"Oh, well...Um, 20 minutes?" Kate offered.

"I will give you 15 minutes," Lucy said firmly, "tops."

"Alright," Kate agreed, "it is 10:09 now, so if someone comes in before 10:24, you have to wait on them in nothing but an apron!" Kate boasted as if she had already won.

"And when a lunch crowd starts showing up after 10:24, you will be serving them in just your apron," Lucy boasted just as confidently.

The three girls waited, eyes fixed on the clock. Lucy again forgot about her jeans in the excitement of betting, and Kate discreetly added them to the pile before Cassy took a minute to move them into the back so the loser couldn't cheat. Kate was beginning to feel nervous as the clock counted past 10:20 without any customers. Lucy looked confident and amused as she smiled at Kate and Cassy as the time ticked away. Cassy was looking between both Kate and Lucy and giggling. No matter who won, she was going to see something remarkable.

At 10:22, Lucy's confidence dropped out of her stomach as a young man and a small boy burst into the diner with their jackets soaked. It took all of Kate's willpower not to shout in triumph as she pointed to the customers and then back to Lucy. Cassy was doubled over in now silent laughter as Kate stood up. "I will get them seated for you while you get dressed," Kate whispered to Lucy, "or rather, undressed." She glided from behind their hidden table and towards the customers, still shaking off the rain. "Welcome! Please, sit anywhere," Kate handed the pair each a menu, clearly unashamed of her bottomless state, "someone will be by to take your order shortly."

The young man didn't even look at Kate as he took the menu. The little boy looked at her and tilted his head slightly. The man led the boy, likely his son, to a booth next to the window as Kate moved back toward her friends.

Was Lucy ready, or does she try to back out?
