Sophie was reassured at dinner. They went to Natalie's favorite burger joint and had a mostly unremarkable conversation. Naomi's curse only came up a few times, and everything seemed almost normal.

"...and then, swear to God, she just hid in the bushes!" Naomi said, bursting into laughter.

"I was stoned! I'd never smoked weed before!" Natalie protested with a laugh. "I didn't know what to do!"

"So hiding in the bushes seemed like the best idea?" Sophie asked through a mouthful of fries.

Natalie shrugged and Naomi put her arm around her. "God, Nat, you're so goofy. I love you! Now, who wants another round?"

Natalie cleared her throat. "Maybe we should just head home. It's been a long day and I'm exhausted."

Naomi nodded and went to clear their tab. Alone with Natalie for the first time, Sophie's eyes narrowed. She spoke in a low voice.

"Natalie, I'm glad this has worked out for you so far, but don't think you can do whatever you want with her."

Natalie looked shocked. "I would nev-"

"I know," Sophie interrupted. "You're in love and you like her just how she is and all that crap. I believe you. I also believe you're 23 years old and she's gonna be like this forever. Naomi's my best friend and I'm gonna be checking in on her. I'm glad you have so much love and respect for her now, but if that changes I'm gonna find out, and I'm gonna fix it."

"Understood," Natalie said seriously. "I would do the same for her if our positions were reversed."

"That's what I wanted to hear," Sophie said with a smile as Naomi returned. "Now, Natalie, do you like my friendship with Naomi? Want it to continue?"

"Of course," Natalie said. "You two have been close your entire lives. I would never take that from her!"

Naomi nodded, the message received, and the trio headed for the exit.
