Yeah, but she's kind of dumb

After a minute of heavy breathing to calm my insane heartbeat, I decided to risk a peek. In for a penny, in for a pound, right? I leaned over centimeter by centimeter. Easing myself closer and closer. Then, without any warning, the window slid wide open.

"Squirrel?" I heard Jessie's inquiring voice say. "Squirrel friend are you here?"

A moment later, her head popped through the opening, and as she turned to look for... a squirrel, apparently, I found myself literally face-to-face with her. Her pretty blue eyes widened with shock, and I probably looked just as shaken. The stare-off felt like it lasted an age, but finally one of us reacted.
