Writer's notes about the characters in Solon's band
Feel free to add to this storyline. As you write, try to keep the personalities of these men consistant with the guidelines.
All four of these men are basically good men with a sense of what is right and wrong. Even Peleus who is capable of the most **** acts of any of them believes that his actions (no matter how cold blooded) are justified under the circumstances.
The following are the character sketches that gunde created for these men.
Solon: The "captain" might not be official, it could be that he's been demoted or he held the rank before becoming a mercenary. His character should be up to the writers, though he's to be calm and experienced. I'll write him as someone of good intelligence and good morals, particularly for a mercenary. He and his men know each other well, as they make up the core of their small group. The majority of those who are missing were relative newcomers, though a few old hands will have perished as well. The knowledge that their individual odds are getting worse with each new campaign can have motivated them into being willing to risk it all on one daring mission.
Peleus: The closest thing the group has to a medic. As mentioned, he's very mean in a fight, and pretty creative when it comes to profanities. He's loyal to his friends, and has a soft spot for women and children. Short and relatively scrawny, he will primarily use a gladius and various knives, possibly wielding a warhammer or club as well.
Telamon: Big, strong and surprisingly agile, Telamon is quite perceptive and has got great eyesight. He doesn't like being in the centre of attention, so he tends to stay in the backdrop, offering comments (humorous or not) every once in a while.
Attalus: Roughly the same height as Solon, and almost as strong as Telamon, Attalus has an almost pathological sense of loyalty, particularly in relation to Solon, to an extent that he probably won't allow himself to die as long as his captain is still able to draw a breath. Other than that, I suppose he bears a fleeting resemblance to Lucius Vorenus from HBO's Rome, and has either an extremely deadpan sense of humour, or none at all. He's also the group's resident dissident, forcing whatever plans that they come up with to be as good as possible through a near-constant stream of critical questions.
Carries a gladius and shield, and a one-handed faix.
