Chapter 4 by Friedman Friedman

Wri Empire

The Wri empire has been ruling over the planet of Corr since the civil war that occurred eighty years ago. This has led to a semi-democratic monarchy, where an elected government deals with global affairs as the Royals deal with inter-planetary situations.

Whilst it took some time, the Wri empire has been able to negotiate trade deals among nearby empires, something the previous rulers had failed to do. The improved diplomatic relations have provided a state of prosperity and an improvement in technology.

Due to their previous war-mongering ways, the Wri empire still maintains the largest and most advanced fleet in the galaxy, but other nations have managed to catch up to be near-equals. There is a small portion of the military that is concerned that recent efforts at diplomacy has left the empire **** to conflict, but most are content with the more peaceful approach.

During the last 20 years, the Monarchy of Wri has been under somewhat of a crisis. Soon after birthing her first child, Queen Niri died in an accident. This has left the King with only one heir to his throne. This has led to other schemers in the royal council trying to set themselves up to overthrow the King. He's attempted to ensure his lineage in a swift and recent marriage to Maras, one of the daughters of the Naseef empire. So far, however, his efforts to produce a second heir have proven futile and many believe he is too old to potentially produce an offspring.

Some also raise concern over Maras becoming the de-facto ruler if the king and his elder brother were to suddenly pass, which considering his health issues and age difference seems rather possible. Whilst rumors that Garrin Hal, the current prime minister is lining himself up for a coup seem to be exaggerated, some believe there may be some truth to them.

Fashion:

Most Corrians are known for wearing colorful outfits, the more colorful the better. Colorful overcoats to protect from the weather are often fashion items. Poorer people will wear synthetic fur-lined clothes whereas those of higher classes will wear variable-heated thermal coats. Undergarments are often even more decadent and colorful and made of fine silk, featuring eccentric patterns.

Religion:

Before the overthrowing of the previous regime, the Empire had banned all religions. Many practiced in secrets, including the most common, The Church of the Stars. The Church of the Stars is an ages-old religion that saw constellations as omens. Interpretations are often subjective, which has led to both heated debates and heavy criticisms. The religion has grown in followers, but the majority of Corr's population remains agnostic.

Cuisine:

Corrians tend to eat warm, hardy meals. Stews have been a cultural tradition since ancient times, and even now, self-heating meals are commonly found in vending machines.

Spiced ales are the usual drink of choice, with Miner's Respite Spiced Ale being the most popular. The drink comes in self-cooling cans, giving drinker's an option to cool their drink before consuming it. Although this is often not needed on Corr, it is nonetheless a feature most appreciated in Space or when consumed on other planets.

Spices have also become popular, especially those imported from the Naseef Empire. Some of the lower class sometimes decry foreign foods as a part of xenophobia, but many appreciate the hot spices on the cold days that are all too common on the planet.

Military:

With a proud tradition of space travel, the Wri Empire's fleet is the single largest in the galaxy. Even beyond their numerical advantage, the Wri Empire is responsible for continuing evolutions in space combat, making their fleet the most feared in the galaxy.

The Wrian's planetary forces, however, are often considered lacking. Most other empires have kept a healthy planetary military, the Wri Empire considers prevention better than the cure. This sentiment has only grown since the civil war led to a more neutral stance toward interplanetary politics. Some military leaders fear a ground invasion could be disastrous if an opposing **** could mount a significant invasion.
