Chapter 6 by MJ_Productions MJ_Productions

The day has officially started

Work

The lab feels like a different world the second the door shuts behind you. Cooler. Quieter. Controlled. The chaotic energy of the lobby fades into the low hum of machines, ventilation systems, and the occasional soft beep from equipment running diagnostics. Everything here has a purpose.

You slide your backpack under the desk at your station and log in. The screen flickers to life, already loaded with spreadsheets, sample IDs, timestamps. Rows and rows of sterile, organized data waiting to be handled. Your role is simple. Not glamorous, not groundbreaking. But important. You’re the one making sure nothing gets lost in the noise.

A tray of samples sits to your left - small vials, each labeled with a barcode and alphanumeric code that looks meaningless unless you know the system. Your job is to make sure those codes mean something in the database. Correct entries. Accurate timestamps. Proper categorization. You pick up the first vial, scan it. The system pulls up its record. You cross-check - batch number, intake time, storage condition. Everything lines up. You log it, move to the next. It’s repetitive, almost meditative. The kind of task that lets your mind drift if you’re not careful.

Across the room, a couple of lab techs talk quietly over a workstation, their voices low and technical. Something about results not aligning with projections. One of them sighs. The other shrugs. Normal workday stuff.

The day goes on
