Work hard to try and finish quicker

You stay at work, putting your phone away so you can concentrate on the task at hand. You ignore the buzz it makes on the table thinking you can read that in a moment. The quicker you get this done the quicker you can get home to Emma. You really get down into the grind and are rocketing through. However you come up for air and see another hour has passed. It's 9pm and you think it might be another hour yet. You check your phone, it was a message from Emma.
*Hey coming home soon?*

*I will be another hour sorry* you respond. It feels curt but you don't want to get distracted any more than you are.

You continue working, hearing a buzz from your phone but you can check it later. The time passes before finally you are done and you finish up the project. Putting it on your supervisor's desk. You read your phone.

*Didn't think you were going to be quite so late. Wish you would have said* you can tell by the tone of message she is pissed and that you haven't responded for an hour she is going to be very annoyed with you. You give her a call as you leave the office, but there is no answer. You try again. Maybe she has gone to sleep, you think.

Turning your keys in the lock you are surprised to hear sounds of laughter from the lounge. You put your head in, Emma is sat next to Ben on the couch in the lounge and they are both holding PlayStation controllers. She waves to you.
"You're back, hey. Can't talk right now as we are in the middle of a game. I'll come to bed in a little bit" she says in a rush. Her face is flushed as if she has been laughing a lot. You shrug and head to bed. You fall asleep before Emma joins you.
