With Bravery men! Attack!

The ambush had caught your men off guard, and a few left unsupported had fallen to heavy blows to the head and chest. Indeed the creatures stood taller than the men on horses, and from their sudden appearance, had startled the mounts.

Cutting out at one to your right with a long sweep of your sword, you found it cutting seemingly harmlessly into old branches and vines. The very flesh of the creatures either fell off in clumps, or twisted back into place. Regenerating from blow after blow, only pausing to launch its own slow, lumbering attacks at you. You deflected hit after hit off of your shield, but it seemed in vein as one strike, not aimed at you, pushed your horse down from beneath you.

On your back, you quickly rose to protect against another such beast. Watching, in minor horror at the chaos around you, it seemed that whilst some men had their attacks utterly prevented, those with axes where cutting long and deep into the hides of the creatures, some even having the luck to sever arms or legs, that would fall the beasts.

Lifting an axe from a fallen comrade, you took swing at the nearest beast's out-stretched arm, cutting it just below the shoulder. with a sound like the grinding of stones, it fell back, with brown ichor spilling from its stubby wound.

FFFWOOMPFF came a sound of fire, as a jet arched out past you and into the beast. Soran was casting fire magic into the beasts to stem their regeneration.

"My lord!" he cried from horseback. "These are NOT demons!"

You bit back the curses in your mouth, as you ducked a swing from another monster.

Twelve more men had fallen, to injuries or ****, before Gunther had fought his way to you. Bleeding from a chest wound, and covered in what looked like rash scars, he called out,

"It is worse than I had feared my liege! what are we to do?"
