What the hell is going on?
Wishes are retroactive
Kevin clutched his head and doubled over as he was assaulted with a lifetime of memories; images, sounds, and raw information were being poured directly into his brain. A privileged upbringing... Double birthdays with his adopted sister... Being popular... Fucking Samantha Mason's brains out... And through it all, a thrumming reminder that wishes were retroactive, they changed the way things had always been.
The popular kids around him, his friends, hurried to help him, clearly worried about him. Despite their good intentions, the words of concern and frantic offers of help only distracted him and made it harder to focus, making the already stressful situation worse. He heard someone say something about getting the nurse and muttered, "I wish everyone would leave me alone and go back to what they were doing."
Immediately, as if a switch was flipped, the crowd around him dispersed and returned to their original positions, picking conversations up mid-sentence as if nothing had happened. He actually noticed people looking past him like he wasn't there, and others altering their path to walk around him without even glancing his way. It was almost like being unpopular again.
Satisfied with the results of his wish, Kevin staggered over to a nearby bench and took a seat. Head in his hands, he tried to piece together the consequences of his earlier wish.
He had wished for his family to be rich, so wealthy that his parents didn't have to work. It was a generous wish, all things considered, but apparently it had long reaching effects on his life. Whoever said money changed people was definitely onto something.
The first and biggest change was his sister, or rather adopted sister, Hana. His parents had felt that, with all that they had, only having a child of their own was selfish, so they had adopted a baby girl from South Korea around the same time Kevin was born. As fate would have it, however much fate factored into a wish altered timeline, he and Hana were born less than a week apart. This meant lots of double birthdays when they were younger.
Hana was a pretty cool girl. To Kevin's surprise, she shared a lot of interests with him, and the two them had always gotten along great. She gave him someone to talk about games and anime with, even if he preferred FPS games and shonen battle shows, while she preferred JRPGs and slice of life series.
Perhaps because of Kevin's status as her pseudo step-brother, only related in this new reality, he'd also noticed that she wasn't exactly hard on the eyes. She had a more petite frame than busty girls like Jessica or Sam, but she wasn't by any means flat as a board and she was much more flexible. There was also something to be said for a compact package that you could lift off the ground without much effort. Finally, there was the element of the forbidden fruit; she was his adopted sister, which was hot in a taboo way, but it didn't feel wrong wrong, because she wasn't in the lifetime he had lived. The whole thing was confusing, but hot.
Kevin's SUV and its passengers were a bit of a story in themselves. The truck had been given to him as a gift on his sixteenth birthday. Hana had been given a car as well, but had a series of unfortunate accidents, culminating in her wrapping it around a lamp post while texting about a year ago. After that stunt, she and Kevin's parents weren't exactly inclined to buy her another. Since then, she'd bummed a ride with Kevin and Jessica every morning. Oh, yes. Kevin gave Jess a ride to school every morning. Why wouldn't he? They were best friends after all.
It all went back to being popular. From a young age, Kevin had all the coolest stuff. The best toys, the best pool, the best car, the best unsupervised lake house, and so on. These things attracted the attention of other people, including his next-door neighbor Jessica Edwards. Jess was a driving **** in Kevin's life. She hadn't been able to break him of his geeky ways, but she had been able to teach him how to speak, dress, and generally become what a popular person should be. There were a lot of questions and rumors about the two of them, but nothing had ever happened between them.
That said, Kevin had been in relationships. He'd had a number of girlfriends, most of whom he'd slept with. Yes, much to Kevin's surprise and frustration, he was not a virgin in this timeline. That wasn't to say that he wanted to be a virgin, just that he would have liked to have actually had sex in the process of getting rid of his virginity.
He planned to rectify that very soon, however. A former casual sex partner of his, namely Sam Mason, had apparently shared stories of his retroactively enhanced member with the cheerleading squad, several of whom were as interested in testing out the rumors about him as they were in testing out the rumors about Brad.
One last thing Kevin remembered from his former life truly haunted him. He was popular. He was one of the ones that treated people like shit. True, he held back more than most and never **** anyone to do his work, he was a closet geek after all, but he still participated. It was one of the few things his sister really disliked about him, and he couldn't blame her; it was now the thing he most hated about himself. He resolved to never do it again and to change the status quo, possibly even get **** on a few people, but he still couldn't shake the feeling of guilt, even if it hadn't really been him that did it.
Once Kevin was generally satisfied with his knowledge of his new life, he looked up to find the courtyard deserted. He felt a brief moment of panic at being late, before he remembered that no one would bother him because of his earlier wish and that he could wish that his teachers wouldn't care that he was late after he undid the first wish.
Those thoughts in mind, he carefully planned his next wishes; he didn't want to have to deal with puzzling out another new life after all. When he was satisfied, he said, "I wish that the effects of my previous wish ended and that no one remembers me grabbing my head or acting strange. I also wish that the teachers at this school have much more lax attitudes about attendance, grades, behavior, and just in general, but that they don't get in trouble with the superintendent or school board because of it."
Nothing visibly changed, but by this point, Kevin was fairly sure his wishes would work. Eager to see them in action, as well as play with his new life, Kevin stood with a grin and strutted confidently into the school.
What mischief does Kevin get up to now that he's familiar with his new life?
