What is Dorothy supposed to do about that?

Why is it up to Dorothy to do something? Why doesn't her friend the scarecrow do something?

"Darn it, Scarecrow," said Dorothy. "Why don't you do something?"

"I don't know what to do," said the Scarecrow. "I haven't got a brain, remember?"

The tree just laughed. "Right now neither of you is impressing me with your 'brain'."

"You take that back!" said Dorothy, shaking an angry finger.

The tree just laughed.

Dorothy was so mad that she saw red.

Then she felt a tug on her slip.

But by the time she thought to do anything, her slip was already vanishing within the tree's mouth.

Now what?
