Rodney nodded to the security guard at the bottom of the stairs, who stood aside to allow the girls past. They climbed a set of stairs and arrived at an opulently decorated lounge overlooking the dancefloor. The Nest was about half-full already, with people gathered on couches, around tables and by the well-stocked private bar. The girls moved towards a table.

"Wow, this is amazing!" Brooke gasped. "I don't know how you did it, Ashley! You're the best friend ever!"

"Ohmigawd!" Becky said, pointing to a nearby table. "It's Brittany Jennings!"

Sure enough, the teen idol and popstar was standing nearby, a martini glass containing pink liquid in hand, deep in a conversation. She glanced over at a group of well-dressed black men near the bar, then laughed at something one of her friends said.
