What's next?
Where the hell did he go?
I didn’t have the time to pay attention to where he was teleporting to, but I quickly picked up my phone to call him. He wasn’t about to run from me plus hijacking my stone along. It was a sensitive matter for both of us and he knew it.
His phone buzzed on top of the couch, next to his wallet. This only could mean one thing: he went to see Rae. Before I even thought to open a portal to his house, Gully stepped on my living room through another one.
“Tell me where he is right now!” I blurted out.
“You know where he is. Sit down!” He commanded.
“No! I’ll go and destroy that fucking stone myself if I have to!” I tried to open a portal to his house, but I felt a hard blockage against my magic.
I lowered my head and put on my angry look at him.
“Open it!” I warned him one time.
He shook his head “no”.
“Fucking open it!” I raged at him and fired a blue tourbillon of light off the top of my air punch. It just vanished when it hit the wall he was previously in front of. He jumped to his right and rolled on his landing in the middle of the kitchen.
He quickly ran in my direction before I fired again and held my closed fist with his right hand and my shoulder with his left one. He knew I was powerful enough to do anything I wanted and he wasn’t the touchy kind of a guy, so his movements startled me.
“It was not the right timing for him to read the stone.” He calmly said.
“I want to see my brother! I wanna know what’s going on right now!” I raged at him again.
“It will do him no good, Michael. Stop!” He pushed my closed fist down. “Rae will try to retrieve the memories of what he saw in the stone, but it’ll not hold long enough. You’ll get out of time soon.”
“These damn rings! Why did you give it to us? It’s a fucking curse like my magic. It’s making everyone around me fall apart, Gully. I can’t stand it anymore! That’s not normal.” I tried to calm myself down and sat on the couch.
“I didn’t give it to you. It has been yours since we met. You created them.” He explained it to me.
“Yes, of course. Because this is all my fault.” I crouched my torso onto my lap.
“I’m sorry, Michael. But it kinda is.” He said plain and simple.
Great! Kick my hand while I try to climb up the pit.
“For the record: don’t ever try to fry me again. I don’t taste that good.” He joked.
“I’ve heard something different.” I fake laughed and shook off the rage.
“It’ll soon be over, Michael.” He sat on top of the sofa back and shook my right shoulder. “I’m sorry if I have to keep this from you. But you asked me for this yourself. I’m in a high debt with you.”
“I know, just–” I sighed. “Give me back my normal brother. I can’t stand to lose three people in less than 24 hours.”
Gully opened a portal to his house and showed me my brother and Rae. His mentor was gently pressing his empty ring stone on his forehead while Chris eyes’ were completely white. It scared me and I jumped off the sofa. Gully quickly jumped behind me and held my arm to stop me from crossing it to the other side. My brother remained immoble like that for at least a minute while the stone charged itself back to the similar original color. It was like someone was trying to copy his Secrecy Stone in some kind of poorly made jewelry.
When Chris’ hazel eyes returned to normal, he blinked twice and catched the stone falling from Rae’s hand. Rae was fainting, eyes closed, preparing to drop his body on the floor, but Gully didn’t hold back and jumped into the portal, steading his lover. Chris then noticed the opened portal and waved at me like my brother should do.
“It’s good to have you back.” I sighed and smiled at him when he stepped back into our living room.
“What are you talking about?” He made a questioning face at me.
“Nothing.”
“Did Jeff break up with you?” He tilted his head to the right and narrowed his eyes.
“Yes. Long story.” I came closer to the portal. “Is everything alright there, Rae?”
“Uff! I don’t know how you can handle all this, Michael!” He laughed. “Am I getting old, baby?” He asked Gully that was still securing his back.
“A few centuries of wisdom, baby.” He pecked Rae’s lips.
“Thank you.” I whispered to both of them while Gully closed the portal.
“Why did Jeff break up with you?” Chris left me no time to breathe.
“We already broke up once. When he wanted to propose.”
“Oh, that’s right.” Chris agreed with his head. I told him about that last week. He knew everything about them, I just left Leon in the dark because I thought he wouldn’t understand too much.
“So… You’re ok?” I asked him, still suspicious.
“Yeah. Why do you ask?” He grabbed a cold pizza slice from the fridge and started chewing like a bull. Yeah, he was normal again.
“Nothing.” I smiled.
“Listen–” He paused to swallow. “I’ll take care of everything back in Harvard, ok?”
“Thanks.” I closed my eyes. I had forgotten about Carl for a few minutes.
