Whatever "Hikaru's Movie" is

Curiosity takes over as Scythe removes the VHS tape from its sleeve and slides it into the slot. When he turns the TV on, various details like the date and time or battery capacity are displayed around the edge of the screen. Those quickly disappear, however, replaced by a shaky hand-recorded shot of the city skyline.

"This," a male voice explains, "is how I became a hero."

"Uuuugghh," Scythe groans. "It's a student movie." He can already feel the cringing in his future just imagining what he's about to see.

He can hear meandering exposition as the guy behind the camera explains the convoluted worldbuilding he's come up with for his movie, which is set in the year 2033 and after an alien invasion, apparently. Scythe can hear the guy turning the pages on his script as he keeps reading, faltering, umming and uhhing, and stumbling his way through. It's making Scythe's face heat up out of sympathy embarrassment just listening to it.

Yet Scythe begins to notice something strange is going on. The video is getting clearer, as is the audio of Hikaru's dialogue. So clear, in fact, that... it's almost like it's real...
