...What was that?

I watch it for a moment, before I see it rise higher and higher. However its trick works, it seems it can't use it to escape the weird gravity of this world. Its eyes flash again a few more times before it rises so high I can't see it any more...If we were still on earth, I wonder if I could have beat it, or if it would have just trapped me until I gave up... A pretty dangerous power for such a weak monster.

I glide back to the ground and look around the clearing again. The corpse the monster had been feasting on is still here...I help myself to it, before returning back to the group. Nothing else in this place seems ready or willing to fight. I don't know if they saw my fight, but if that was the apex predator in this jungle, I wouldn't have anything to fear anyway.

When I get back, I'm greeted by a slightly bored looking Amber. "Did you get lost? You took almost an hour!"

"Not my fault. I got ambushed by a monster."

"What?! I told you it was stupid to go out alone! Next time just hold it!"

I'm ready with the perfect come back... "I already hold it more than is healthy. Any more and I might go blind." it gets a chuckle from Alice, and possibly the most tired fury I've ever seen on Amber's face.

"Whatever... Just get some rest. We need to keep moving, and you especially need to be ready."

I pick up on her general exhaustion and realize now probably isn't the time. I give her a wave and duck back into my tent. She is right...we don't really have the luxury on going on late night quests out here... Feeling a bit more secure, I drift to halfsleep. I feel like we still have a long way to go...
