Chapter 5

Does Cate shrug off the feeling? Or does Cate investigate it further?

What spy wouldn't investigate?

Reaching into her bag, Cate pulled out a pair of sunglasses and placed them on her head, causing the invisible Joanna to raise an eyebrow as she shook her head with a confident smirk. This woman had no idea she was there!

Unbeknownst to the red head, however, these weren't normal sunglasses.

Cate cycled through both camera and mine detector modes before finally reaching what she was looking for: Infrared mode. Cate didn't even need to turn around as she saw the heat signature of the woman behind her being reflected in the elevator doors, a smirk of her own dancing across her face.

Joanna felt her smirk falter a bit as she saw the other woman smirk. It disappeared completely as Cate removed her glasses, placing them into her bag as she dug around for something else.

"Don't even try it!" Joanna snarled, deactivating her cloaking device as she pulled out her Falcon 2 from her jacket, aiming it at the Scottish spy.

In a move so quick that Joanna didn't register it, Cate reached for the holster on her hip and whipped out her CT-180 Utility Launcher, aiming the pistol at the red head.

"Cloaking. Most impressive." Cate commented, not taking her eyes of the second spy in the elevator. "I should probably get Santa to work on a device like that... Minus the downside of being seen by infrared, of course."

"A little old to be believing in fairy tales, aren't we?" Joanna quipped, her smirk returning as she kept her vision on the woman. "Of course, you probably didn't get the memo that The Sixties ended a few decades ago from the way you're dressed. So I wouldn't be surprised that you still believe in Santa Claus."

"Who are you working for?!" Cate interrogated, "CIA? MI6? Delgado herself?"

"Who I work for is on a need to know basis. As in, 'You don't need to know'."

Both Cate and Joanna glared each other down, neither making any sudden movements with their fingers on the triggers of their respective handguns while they waited for the other to make the first move. They waited for a good fifteen seconds before the elevator chimed with a ding, the doors opening slowly...

Who gets off the first shot?
