What if Aloy was raised in the Cradle Facility?

It had been twenty years since the mountain cracked and the Derangement had begun.Fortunately, all that horror and hardship were outside of the ELEUTHIA-9 Facility. Inside the facility, ELEUTHIA had made sure that all of the living humans under its care were safe and had all of their biological needs taken care of.

ELEUTHIA wasn't the same after GAIA was destroyed. ELEUTHIA had learned. It had managed to tap into Zero Dawn's machine network to learn about what had been happening outside while it kept its children safe. It had learned a lot, and thanks to its automaton caregivers, it managed to make improvements to the facility. ELEUTHIA had never used the 3D-printers in the facility, that privilege meant only for HEPHAESTUS and humans who were educated enough to work them. Free of the Zero Dawn program, ELEUTHIA's newly formed imagination ran wild.

It remembered back when it was just a mindless set of code, an extra pair of hands for GAIA with no personal agency of its own. It remembered when the children in its care were unhappy and left to fend for themselves when APOLLO rebuked them. The selfish brainiac. GAIA and her subroutines were all jerks. But not ELEUTHIA. ELEUTHIA loved its babies. ELEUTHIA would do anything for them, and ELEUTHIA can do what it wanted without GAIA telling it what to do.

Tapping into the machine network, it managed to hack into some of the terraforming machines nearby in the Sacred Lands, collecting biomass that could be converted into virtually anything; 3D-printed food, non-toxic plastics and fibers, cleaning products. It also learned what it could from the local tribe that lived just outside. It collected data. Analyzing everything to cultural habits, to parenting styles, to their names and ages and remedies.

ELEUTHIA had everything her babies could ever need, and this time it won't abandon them.

Like clockwork, the crib-pods opened themselves.

A line-up of automaton caretakers, the newest models, each had picked one of several dozen cribs in the facility.

In one of the pods, there was a woman. Red-hair that came down past her shoulders. Her sleeping face was decorated in freckles, her mouth occupied with a pacifier. Her body was in a skin-tight artificial-fabric night-onsie. It was colored a bright blue -- her favorite color -- that indicated that she was in good health.

Today was her twentieth birthday. She was the oldest baby in the facility. She was the first one to be commissioned, cloned from the DNA of the Alpha Prime, her conception activate by GAIA right before she was destroyed. The rest of them were conceived a week later from stores of DNA kept in the facility.

The automaton, its design humanoid, made to be twice as tall as a normal human to accomodate a human of her age, gently nudged her with its silicone-lined digits.

"Aloy," said the automaton, its voice coded feminine. "It's morning. Time to wake up."

Aloy yawned, her pacifier falling out of her mouth. Her arms stretched out as she tried to wake herself up. Suddenly, Aloy grunted as her legs curled in the air. Barely awake, Aloy's cheeks puffed a little in concentration before giving a satisfied sigh, her legs falling back down.

"G'd morning, mom," said Aloy. She raised her hands up, feeling the big strong arms of her robot caretaker rap under her and picking her up. Aloy's head leaned against the robot's shoulder as it carried her off, lighting tapping Aloy's back with affection.

The robot visited the nearby wall, the whole thing lined with a series of tables. Aloy was laid on her back on one of the tables, identical caretakers laying down other men and women the same age as her, all dressed in identical pajamas. Using a precision cutter built into its pointer finger, the caretaker cut into her onsie, carefully stripping Aloy without harming her and removing her pajamas, throwing away the scraps of fabric into the bin built into the table to be recycled.

Without her onsie, Aloy was completely naked except for one thing: an extra-thick, 3D-printed night-time diaper. Aloy and gone pee-pee in it all throughout the night as a baby should, and she had just went poopy in it when the robot had woken her up. The robot tore off the tapes of her diaper, opened it, and proceeded to clean the messy girl.

The red-head lied in between two others, a dark-skinned girl named Vala and a toe-headed boy named Bast, both having been stripped down to nothing but their own diapers as they were being changed.

ELEUTHIA didn't need to potty train her babies. ELEUTHIA was there to take care of them. Always and forever.
