How Do Things Progress?

What Could be Hidden Amongst the Cloth?

Chapter 13 by dracone

Evan, Sakura, and Rilshara spent what felt like hours searching the chambers. Rilshara found a few clues, they were stamped onto the side of the wooden dowels the bolts were wrapped around. To most people, the symbols were next to meaningless, but to someone of Rilshara's background, they were a set of instructions, that were also out of order. To be frank, she was unsure which of the 7 insignias she saw was intended to be done first in order to open the door. Figuring out the order of the symbols was probably part of the puzzle, the only thing Rilshara knew for sure was that she had to do use certain types of cloth to make some very specific products.

Rilshara decided to just do her own thing and hope for the best, chances were the symbols weren't right and would require some sort of key to make them the proper sequence and symbols. First off, she grabbed a bolt of a material that seemed to be flexible and durable, even with magic the production of such a cloth was difficult when you had access to the proper tools for its production. She then looked around for the appropriate cloth shears, after a few minutes she found a pair of shears made of an earthy green metal, she almost fainted from excitement, adamantine was a difficult metal to mine, not to mention forging the material was considered one of the highest of tests of a smith's abilities, and here was set of high-quality shears made of the material. After her little search, Rilshara found a mechanical sewing machine with a needle forged of adamantine. She put her prowess to work in working fabric to craft a dark blue haversack from the material.

It took her what seemed like moments to craft the bag, she could feel a magic that was not her own flowing into the material as she expertly stitched together. She wouldn't learn what the magic was until some time later. After she was done sewing, she looked at her notes and suddenly realized that the symbols, while being the sort common among the seamstress profession, could actually be the arcane nonsense that is a wizard's reminders on how to cast spells, she did something similar but since symbols are as much cultural as they are their own language, the symbols she used were noticeably different while technically being similar.

Evan and Skura watched the spider woman scurrying like she was on a mission, make something, pull a little notepad out from a pocket in her attire near her gut, and looked at it and have a look of sudden realization. Then get giddy and pulled the tome hanging from a fabric chain at her side and started writing something with a peacock quill that seemingly materialized in her hand after what looked like she was writing a few more notes in her pad for what seemed like a few minutes. She then put everything back and grabbed the bag she had made at one of the machines. Then things got weird.

Rilshara witnessed something strange, the scissors she had used got up and flew on their own. The shears flew over to the wall on her left and cut the wall, which appeared to actually be a well-made cloth replica of the chamber's wall, to reveal a set of red cedar double doors. Well, the puzzle was simpler than she had thought. She could have just asked someone with a sharp blade to just attack the walls. The shears then returned to where they pulled from. The three all made their way to the door.
