Chapter 3 by Ben Rosewood Ben Rosewood

Does Sila move in with me?

Well of course she does. The entire premise of the story is that she moves in and becomes my roommate...

Later that day, Sila called me to say that she liked my place the most. A few days of bullshit later, and Sila is ready to move in. It's about 5:30 when I get home, where I find Sila waiting for me. In her lap is a laptop, her fingers dancing on the keyboard like Mozart playing one of his masterpieces. I feel kinda bad breaking her from her trance, but it must be done.

"Hey there." I say.

"Oh." Sila looks up to me. "Hello Roxy."

"Sorry I'm late."

"No no, I'm actually early."

After a shrug, I say "Nothing like being enthusiastic."

"Exactly."

"How about I let you in?"

"That'd be good."

I move to the door and unlock it. Once we're inside, I ask "So can I get you anything?"

"No thanks. I've had dinner."

"Oh okay. I'm gonna do some Chinese noodles if you want some?"

"I'm fine."

"You sure? I make some dope ass noodles."

Sila flashes an adorable little smile. "I'm sure. Thanks."

"Well if you're this easy to take care of we're gonna get along just fine."

"Heh. I guess."

As I pull ingredients out of my fridge, I ask "So how was your day?"

"Pretty good. Just spent it at college."

"See you were working hard on your assignments."

Sila's eyes glance away from me. "Uh, yeah... yeah."

If she was hooked up to a lie detected it'd be going ballistic right now. Then again, it's none of my business, so it's not my concern.

"So, where is your family from?"

"My father is Lebanese, and my mother's Mexican."

"Ohh, a real blend."

"Yeah."

"Anything culturally I need to be aware of?"

"No. I'm a normal American like everyone else."

I nod. "Didn't want to make you feel weird or anything, but I figured we'd have to cross that bridge."

"It's fine. Better safe than sorry."

"So what are you up to tonight?"

"I've gotta study a bit."

"That's cool. If you need anything, or just wanna chill for a bit, just say so."

"I'll keep it in mind."

Sila heads out to the living room so I go ahead and make some (hopefully) dope ass noodles. Half an hour or so later and said noodles are devoured. I head into the living room, where Sila is still typing away frantically on her keyboard. After finishing her sentence, she turns to me "Are you done?"

"Yeah. You?"

"For tonight."

"Yeah c'mon. Let's chill out."

We spend the rest of the night kicking back on the couch watching Netflix until its time for bed. As I go to sleep, I wonder if Sila will ever come out of her shell? She seems nice enough, and hell, there's nothing wrong with being an introvert. Just a shame she seems so closed.

What happens next morning?
