Chapter 17

What do you decide to do?
Well, you could at least meet her, right?
Even just for appearances, it's the right thing to do. Right? The next day you speak with Lothair about it, saying you would like a meet and greet before making a decision. He is ecstatic, and hastily writes a message which he hands off to a runner. A few uneventful days later and you're almost home. It is dusk, and the last few rays of sunlight paint the horizon in rich purples and oranges. You are disturbed from your reverie by an obsequious call. "Sire? Sire?" Lothair murmurs nervously. You walk over to where he is, peeking around the corner of a tent. "Yes?" you ask, annoyed by the wormy man. "She has arrived sir! Follow me, I shall lead you to her." You roll your eyes and walk to Lothair's tent, which is not as big as yours but still a nice size given his status. A small carriage rests nearby, most likely the girl's means of conveyance.
As you enter, flap held open by Lothair, you are greeted by the sight of a smiling young woman. It's a wonderful break from the usual sight of grim men you've been **** to sit through on campaign. You admire her long blonde hair, which goes down at least to the small of her back and which curls slightly. She is well-dressed in smooth white silk which hugs her form. As such, you can make out that she has a mostly slim, girlish figure that is nonetheless offset by surprisingly prominent breasts. They aren't enormous per se, but on her little body you wonder that they don't cause her to fall over. Her face is full and attractively girlish, with just a hint of adult sensuousness. You notice that she is a bit nervous, which is understandable given the reason for the both of you being here.
Lothair walks in after you, and stands off to the side between you and the girl. "You majesty, this is my dear niece Judda. She's very excited to meet you." You notice her glance off to Lothair, as if looking for a cue. "Yes, I am so pleased to meet a man of your prestige. I hope that you find me pleasing milord, and that I shall serve to keep you from disgrace" she says before bowing politely. "I know the circumstances of my birth are not ideal, but I would be eternally grateful for such a role as my good uncle suggests. I could do not better" she says, and you notice her lip quiver slightly. You wonder how much this is Lothair's concern for you, and how much a ploy to ingratiate himself through a family member.
Perhaps meeting her was the wrong thing to do, because now you're confused. What to do? Ignore her, and focus on Shara, out of respect (maybe even, love?) for her? Dismiss Shara (who may be pregnant) cruelly in favor of this more socially-acceptable girl? Or try to forge through the middle, risking not pleasing anyone? It's a surprisingly weighty decision.
What course of action to take?
