Chapter 21
by No.Eight
Leave the next morning?
Well, what else would you do?
"Was everything to your satisfaction?" asks the fat, boorish innkeeper the next morning.
"Oh yes," you smirk, paying him for the room- and, though he doesn't know it, for the use of his wife and daughter. You can see them out of the corner of your eye, standing demurely together; but you know that in private they'll go wild together from now on. In fact, you wouldn't be surprised if they ran off together. You try not to laugh at the thought- this idiot would lose his wife and daughter all at once! What a scandal it would be for him!
"Give my regards to your wife and daughter," you say, unable to resist the temptation. "Thank them for all their... kindnesses. They were very good to me last night, you see."
The fool has no idea that there's anything more to your words that it seems, and promises to pass on your message. With just a wink at Clara and Varess to say goodbye, you stroll out of the inn.
Although wandering about aimlessly has thus far led you to pleasant things (EXTREMELY pleasant things, you think with a chuckle, as memories of the previous night surface in your mind), it might be wise to come up with a plan of action now.
You're actually not all that far from Venderbrast any more so you could head there. Who knows what you might find?
Or perhaps you could wander up towards the mountains, and try to find that lost city that people are always going on about, Arok Carr; you tried looking before and failed, but perhaps you'll have more success this time. There's said to be a great treasure there, but nobody's managed to visit the city in over two hundred years now, so it might be a very dangerous quest indeed.
And then there's also the island of Marssa off to the east- you could take a trip down to the coast and then cross over the ocean. Marssa is ruled by a powerful sorcerer, though a benevolent one, and where there's sorcery there's quests, and where there's quests there's... well, it's fairly obvious by now.
Either way there's bound to be gold and girls along the way.
So which is it to be?
Knight
