Chapter 37

Please don't let them have burned the place down...
Well, they didn't burn the place down.
No column of smoke or fire trucks was a good sign, as Lauren pulled onto their side street. It was unevenly paved, with precision sidewalks next to recently built corporate ant buildings, as Robin thought of them, interspersed with the old driveways and trees of a place still trying to resist the influx of cash for disappearance. Not fashionable or close enough to the main part of town to be swarmed, but not far enough out to be ultra cheap. A balancing act of a place, that could only last so long. Robin was just glad he'd been here long enough to keep his girls out of trouble.
The sight of the building next door brought a welcome smile to Robin's face, and he scanned the parking lot, trying to remember what Viola's car looked like. He finally gave up when he realized that not only did he have no idea, but no idea what kind of proclivities she had towards vehicles. He made a mental note to write it on the note, then cancelled it immediately. No fucking way, that sounds like a stalker, he admonished himself.
"You ok? Just got quiet for a second?" Lauren remarked, as she pulled the vehicle into the cracked mortar and stone driveway in front of the pair of duplexes.
"Yeah, was just thinking about her..." Robin commented, honestly. One of the things he loved about Lauren was that she never begrudged him looking or thinking about other women. In fact she often would use it later to turn him on when in bed. Memories of the previous night flashed through Robin's mind, and he smiled.
"Dang... shouldn't have got you all riled up... Course if you wanted to tell me about all the things you want to do to her AGAIN... I wouldn't mind hearing it. You have such interesting variations..."
"You are... I love you." Robin smiled, opening the car door and grabbing one of the take out bags. He quickly shoveled a generous portion of trash into it, before closing the car door, with the bag in one hand. Lauren had already gotten the blue bag out of the car, as well as her overnight, which she handed to him.
"Manly Grunting Chores!"
"Ugh, again?" Robin groaned.
"Shouldn't have written the line. I like that one." Lauren smirked, twirling her keys. "I'll get the door."
Robin delayed only slightly, to rapidly toss the trash filled bag into the nearby bin before shifting the small valise and the blue item into one hand and closing the trunk with a quick motion. He deliberately ended the motion standing on one foot, exaggerating the move and raising himself onto his toes, while hanging his arm downwards...
"Show off..." Lauren laughed, grabbing him by his arm and pulling him along the small concrete path between the dead lawns in the front of the houses. Looks like the gardener had missed his appointment this year. Robin had never minded, of course, because it brought the rent down an additional fifty bucks, which took care of the power bill most months.
