Welcome to the Madhouse

Chapter 4 by AnotherAnt AnotherAnt

Between her time as Oracle, and all the fresh members of the Bat-Family to pick up the slack, it'd been a long time since Barbara had set foot in Arkham Asylum! A very long time... And yet, not nearly long enough.

She was well into her illustrious hero career at this point. She'd traded blows with Gotham's biggest and meanest. Worked with magicians, demons and gone on coffee dates with ladies from other planets. But Arkham made her feel... Small. Vulnerable. It frightened her on a primal, instinctive level. The amount of horror that these halls had seen...

Still, she didn't let her intimidation show. And her escort certainly didn't seem bothered.

"Ooh, home sweet home!" Harley giggled madly as they walked through the towering doors. "Just in time for pizza night!"

The clown had been sufficiently throttled in their latest fight. Bruised, suit torn in some obscene places. And now she was being brought into one of the scariest places on Earth... And she was all giggles! Barbara could only sigh, choosing not to respond to her mania.

Not that that'd ever stopped Harley from talking before.

"You ain't been here in a while, right, Red?" Harley asked, peeking her head back at Barbara. "Lotta things have changed in the ol' loony bin. You might wanna just leave me at the gate!"

"Not happening, Quinn." Barbara finally retorted, giving her a wary look. Finally, they approached the processing center, where guards were quick to take Harley through security.

"Nice work, Batgirl. We'll take her from here." The guard captain nodded dismissively-- Only for Barbara to step forward.

"If it's all the same, I'd like to accompany you guys through the transfer. Harley's being even weirder than usual. I wanna make sure she's not hiding anything."

"Trust me, we make sure she's not hiding anything..." The guard cracked a smile, before regaining his serious composure. "I mean, that's fine, it's just... We've really upped our security measures lately. We don't take any chances these days.

If you want to move any further into the asylum, you'll need to go through the same security checks as Quinn."

Barbara pursed her lips. Frankly, it was about time that Arkham got serious about their security. If anything, she was glad to hear that they were taking every precaution, even with the heroes!

So... Why did she have a bad feeling about this?
