Chapter 56 by Rhubarb Rhubarb

What's next?

Wednesday Afternoon

Wednesday lunchtime and Blair’s fretting to Krystal.

“I don’t see why we have to have this meeting. I’ve submitted the paperwork.”

“You know what Dr Stricture’s like. She doesn’t read the paperwork. That’s only for Layla.”

You raise an eyebrow as you sit down next to them. “What’s up.”

“Blair’s worried about her meeting,” Krystal tells you. “With Dr Stricture. The one about the accident on Monday evening.”

“I thought you said there was nothing you could do about it. It was just an accident.”

“Yes, but accidents aren’t supposed to happen in this school,” Blair moans.

Any further conversation is stalled by the appearance of Nurse Karlee. She smiles at the three of you, the one directed at you lasting the longest. She really does fill out her nurse’s uniform well.

“Are you ready?” she asks Blair. Blair just snorts and tosses her head, making her ponytail dance.

“If you want support, I could come,” you suggest. “After all I was there.”

“I think that fact would only complicate the situation,” Karlee states, placing a hand on your shoulder to keep you seated. “We didn’t mention your presence. I thought it wise.”

You look at her confused.

“Dr Stricture has informed both of us to keep an eye on you, make certain you’re not wandering around the sports grounds when the girls are there.”

“But I’m a teacher here.”

“Yes, she trusts you with lessons, but I don’t think she trusts you, or the girls, outside them. She’s old-fashioned like that.”

Krystal smirks. Blair’s too concerned about the impending meeting. Karlee’s smile tells you she thinks it’s all stupid. She and Blair are soon up and off, leaving you with Krystal. You leave soon after, pausing by the cubbyholes to pick up the ‘C’ Stream’s homework. Everyone, except Kelly, has managed to submit. You take it back to your office to skim through.

Definitely the poorest submissions. Most badly structured, waffling and fixated on one idea, as if the girls had only read one idea. But there’s promise in some of them. It’s just going to be challenging to extract it.
