Especially since the job was paying 200,000 jewels just to steal a book from some rich guy over in Shirotsume Town. That was more money in one job than I'd made in six months working my ass off back in Hargeon! Our rent was 70,000, so assuming we split the money down the middle then we'd be paid off for the rest of the month and we'd have plenty left over for groceries and even luxuries!

Now Natsu acted pretty dense but it was apparently all a front because he managed to set a trap for Lucy. Earlier he'd gotten her to talk all about Celestial Spirits and the importance of never breaking her promises in her dealings with them and others. So when she read the job listing and learned the only reason why he wanted her was because Duke Everlue was a dirty lech who was looking to hire a cute blonde maid, she couldn't really back out without breaking her word.

As Lucy was being extremely dramatic on her hands and knees nearby I told the extremely proud of themselves duo, “Hey. I'm joining the team too. Someone needs to watch Lucy's back when she's inside and that's going to be me.”

Natsu waved a hand dismissively as he and Happy continued to snicker in triumph, “Sure. Sure. Whatever.”

The cat craned his head to look at me with a knowing grin, “Are you sure you're not just going to hump each other the whole time and forget about the book?”
