Chapter 5 by Xolodnik Xolodnik

What's next?

We are almost there

Rushing up the stairs made him lose some of the initial excitement, and he paused for a moment outside his mother's bedroom, taking a deep breath to steady his nerves. He knew exactly what he was about to do, he was about to find out why he feels so weird whenever his moms are kissing in front of him. That problem seemed to be the most urgent and important now. His heart was pounding in his chest as he raised his hand, ready to knock on the door, only to realize that his plan was to simply break in while his moms are cooking dinner downstairs.

His hand turned the nob, the door slowly swinging open with a soft click. The memory of recent events suddenly hit him. The room was dimly lit, the curtains drawn, but Jack could make out the shapes of his mothers on the large bed. They were entwined together, their naked bodies moving rhythmically as they kissed and caressed each other. It was a sight that should have been shocking, yet somehow it felt natural and right. He couldn't tear his eyes away from them.

Lara's long, silky hair flowed over Kira's arm as she arched her back; the gentle sighs and moans that escaped their lips as they lost themselves in the moment; the way their skin glowed in the soft light, a testament to their love and passion for each other. He felt a strange tingling sensation in his own groin as he remembered that intimate display. He shook his head, "Right, should have knocked before entering."

Quick look around the room proved that it is indeed empty and that was just a flashback to few weeks ago. His mom's bedroom was empty. Trying to focus on what he came for, he starts searching the room, looking for the whiteboard where they usually kept track of their daily routine. It usually stood near the bedroom, but now it's nowhere to be found. He starts to panic a little, thinking that maybe they've hidden it or something.

But then, as he's about to give up, he notices the open bathroom door. He slowly walks over, feeling a bit embarrassed for intruding on his mothers' privacy even more, but also driven by the need to find the whiteboard. To his surprise, he finds it tucked on the bathroom mirror, right next to the toothbrushes. Quickly scanning it reveals that their routines are quite normal, nothing out of the ordinary.

Lara and Kira both wake up at 6:30AM, have a quick workout, breakfast at 7AM, and are out the door by 7:30AM to get to their respective jobs. Lara at the hospital and Kira at the university. In the evenings, they come home around 5PM, make dinner together, and spend some quality time together before going to bed at 10PM.

The discovery of the whiteboard eases Jack's mind somewhat, and he uses the magic pen to inscribe his moms' names on the scheduler, hopefully tying it to their personalities, or however this magic suppose to work. "But what is the point? They follow this schedule anyway..."

He pauses, his hand reaches to the small black sharpie attached to the whiteboard. The silver marker glints in the light, a silent beacon of hope. With a deep breath, he carefully inscribes the words, "Explain Jack why he feels weird" before his moms' sleep time. The letters flow smoothly, leaving a dark line on the white surface, his handwriting being indistinguishable from his mom's.

As he steps back to admire his handiwork, a strange sense of anticipation washes over him. He can't help but wonder what this evening will bring. Perhaps his moms will have some sort of dream, a vision that will help him understand his own feelings. Maybe they'll simply forget about the note and nothing will happen. But he clings to the hope that something will change. That soon, he'll wake up with a new understanding of why he feels so off-kilter when they kiss.

Walking downstairs to have dinner feels slightly anticlimactic, as if he could have had so much more. "NO, more is not better. It is better to advance gradually." His moms had taught him that, and he tries to keep it in mind. The smell of the food fills the kitchen, and he can hear the clatter of their dishes as they prepare it. They both smile at him, and he feels a sense of warmth spread through his chest.

They eat in talk about their day, making small talk as they do so. Lara complements Jack on doing her chores list all this time. Kira also says something, but Jack doesn't really listen. He's too busy thinking about the whiteboard. He wipes his mouth and asks for a glass of water, then excuses himself to go to the bathroom. As he passes by the kitchen, he can't help but glance at the hallway that leads to their bedroom.

Finally, they finish their dinner and clear the table. Jack goes to the living room to watch TV, pretending to be absorbed in the show, while secretly keeping an eye on the hallway that leads to their bedroom. After a while, he hears the soft click of their bedroom door closing, signaling that they have both gone upstairs.

Their bedtime is marked for 10PM, and now it is only 9:30. But this does not make jack feel easier, he looses track of the movie and goes inside his head. Of course, they still have time to react to the change on the scheduler. Or maybe it was all just a prank, His moms are not known to joke like that, but maybe it is some kind of family joke. If the pen really magic, why are they not talking to him yet?
