We Play a Game

“Now if we’re going to stick around in this room we might as well try the games here.” –Marcus moves around to the other side of the tables –“So are you any good at pool?”

“I was pretty good last time I played” I move over to the rack of pool cues and pull out one that’s just my size.

“Oh well then perhaps you’d like to play for something” he grins

I change my voice to be sultrier as I continue “Oooo and what were you thinking we’d play for?”

“Oh just the next round of drinks” he says mock innocently

“Ah” I respond, surprised.

“Yeah whoever loses buys the winner another drink” Marcus confirms.

Damn, he was just testing the waters. This guy is sure crafty. “Yeah alright, I like when theirs some stakes”

“Let’s get started then” Marcus announces as he slots a coin in the machine and the Billiards get released.

We get the balls set up smoothly then Marcus pulls out a coin. “Heads or tails?” He asks with a wink.

“Tail’s” I respond winking back at him.

“I thought you’d be” He tosses it into the air to catch it deftly. “Its heads though. My turn” Marcus stands at the head of the table lining up his shot. With a clink the white ball goes sailing into the centre sending the triangle splitting apart in a colourful chaos. One of the stripes gets potted making Marcus grin as I blue chalk my cue. Looks like this’ll be a tough game.
