Wake up.

Your eyes fly open and you bolt upright, breathing heavily. Your heart is thudding in your ears before you realize you’re back on the couch. You notice your arm out, gun gripped tightly in your hand.

You lower your arm and rub your goggles. You’d actually fallen asleep with all your gear on? You hadn’t been that tired in some time.

Quiet footsteps echo across the hallway and you see Carmen round the corner, jacket hanging loosely on her shoulders as she regards you with surprise.

“Oh!” she says. “You’re awake?”

You rub the pounding feeling in your temple. “Couldn’t sleep properly,” you mumble.

“Me either,” she says. “Not really used to sleeping outside my own bed.”

“Imagine that,” you mutter.

She looks at you and fidgets with her fingers. “Would you… would you like to come up with me?”

You frown at her through the goggles. “What?”

She points up at the ceiling. “There’s a little ladder that goes up to the roof. I think a breeze might help us get better rest, but… I… don’t really wanna go up there alone.”
