Waiting for Speeders

It was another hot summer day for Sam and she was put in one of her least favorite positions as a cop which was waiting and catching dumb speed racers. The reason being is she was in charge of teaching one of the rookies, Alex, on how to pull someone over when he or she is speeding on the road. Both Sam and Alex have been parked on the side of the road on a highway since morning until evening. So far, they have only pulled over 2-3 cars that have sped passed them and the rest of those hours, they sat through the unbearable heat, having light and boring conversations. So far, they had about an hour left, waiting for their shift to be finally over.

“Awww man, can’t wait til this boring shift is over,” Alex grumbled.

“What, you hate working with me?” Sam said.

“W-what? I didn’t say th-“

“Relax, I’m just messing with you! Besides, you’re going to have to start getting used to this all the time before you get into real action! You’d probably wet yourself anyways though,” Sam chuckled.

“Shut up!” Alex said.

After that, there was silence again. Sam had to admit to herself that she was exhausted from this boring shift and she couldn’t wait until her shift as a mentor is over. Her heavy outfit was wearing her down while sweat accumulated underneath. Her feet ached in pain from her uncomfortable combat boots and her socks weren't helping ease the pain. She wished she could just take off her boots to stretch out her feet and toes right where she was. She also couldn’t help but feel excited to get home home and get out of her uniform, take a nice hot shower, and wear comfortable clothes again.

*ZOOM*

A car zoomed passed them through a highway at great speed way passed over the speed limit.

“Well, this is way better than just sitting here! Let’s go catch those guys!” Sam demanded as she put on her sunglasses.
