Chapter 7

What task do you set your units to engage in next?

Wait a second...

You call up the quest screen again and look carefully at the list of tasks...

~Dammit, sending them out 'Gathering' is mandatory!~ you think, and resolve to get that dealt with. You tell the girls to form up with you around the deer carcass, thinking that bears and wolves might be attracted to the scent of blood, and you will need to guard your food supply.

None show up however before the elven huntresses are back with the wolf and you tell them: "I'm going out with the peasants to gather roots and other vegetables You guard the carcasses, and DON'T try to dress that wolf, I am going to take care of that myself in a few hours." You declare, noting that the sun is about 1/4th of the way across the sky, it having been just after dawn when you 'arrived' on this world. "Did you encounter any wolves?" You query, and the leader of the elven huntress shakes her head.

"None of the foul beasts my lord, except the dead one." She declares.

"Good, stay vigilant, we should be back in an hour or two." You state and head out with the 'peasants'.

The six of you wander around, you wincing every now and then at the pain from still being one HP down but still setting the pace for the others, then realize that the timer on your healing has surely elapsed and buff yourself back to full. You personally have no idea what edible plants even look like, but 'Gathering' is a default skill for 'peasant' units and they shortly have skirts full of bluish carrots and potatoes as well as having found some of those 'roasting herbs' the quest calls for so you turn back. You encounter no more hostile creatures with the exception of a Lynx who you don't approach it, swinging wide around what you guess is it's den, and thus it does not get 'agro' before it wanders off, and you reach the barn again without incident.

However when you get back there is some interesting news.

"No problems I hope:" You pull up the identity manifest of the leader of your huntresses: "Filandariel?"

"None my lord! Also nothing to report, save a small female barn cat making off with the deer's liver, which as it was no longer part of the carcass we let her take." She states enthusiastically.

It is just at this moment that you realize you have never actually entered the 'Barn' which you won through shrewd investment of your last 15 'Karma Points' and turn to it's two immense weather beaten wooden front doors which run on wooden rails and have that classic barn door 'X' shape to their bracing. This barn, you have never seen another so big in your entire life, either of them, (Though in your last life you were a city boy.) must be 3 stories tall if it's an inch, not counting what looks like a wooden bell/clock tower (But not containing either) and weather vein, has a central area which looks like you could store like 8 tractors in it, two single story wings off to either side of that with their own separate sliding doors, two sets of doors on the upper story which must go into a hay loft, one front and one back, and another narrow door and two shuttered windows around back on the 'ground floor'.

Having circumnavigated the structure with your 'peasants' in tow you come back out front and look up at the massive double doors. "Have any of you ladies been inside?" You ask, and the elves all nod.

"Had to to hang up the deer." Filandariel declares and you smile.

"Alright, lets all take a tour, since this is going to be home for the first few days at least we had better get acquainted with it." You state and head inside as the peasants pull back the massive doors by their proportionally massive wooden handles.
you leave four of the elves guarding the supplies, taking only Filandariel to show you around.

You find the inside is not quite a spacious as it looked from the outside, the whole back section is taken up by a large tack room and office, at least you guess it's an office, since it has no furniture right now, but does have the two windows, with glass panes in them behind the shutters, while in the front part are a lot of wooden shelves, bins, and boxes, on one side all empty, while the other as what looks like the moorings points and railings of modern milking operation, but none of the machines. Between them is an area of blank concrete which could hold perhaps 3 tractors, or one plus its attendant harrow and seeder. The upper story is a full hayloft, just a big blank space waiting for hay accessible from the ground by three ladders, and a staircase one at each corner, at the end of which above the office is the stairs going up to the bell/clock tower. The two one story wings to either side hold stabling for 22 horses and a cow byre, and you are well satisfied with your prize. The one other thing you find is there are 5 or 6 cats, not counting the litter of 4 kittens, living in the barn, and able to wander through it nimbly.

~Best 15 points I spent the whole process!~ You think, as you return to the outside where the rest of the elves who were not guiding the tour are waiting.

By the position of the sun, now just past high noon, touring the barn took 20-30 minutes, and you are running out of daylight much more quickly than you would like. "OK, everyone eat some carrots and then we will get moving on securing some 'Stones' and more 'Wood' to construct a fire pit and also finding one of the streams for water, we have to get that food cooked for dinner and have water by then, or this will get ugly." You state, confident in your assessment by the growing thirst and parching of your own throat which makes your words come out a croak.

What orders do you give to make this happen, and which unit do you take scouting?
