Chapter 10
Which Style do you chose?
Wait a second, what's this all about?
You look at the sheet of paper and examine the five options:
/========================================\
Imperitor
Caesar
Princeps
Tyrant
Consul
\========================================/
“What does all this mean?” You ask.
Captain Kepler smiles and explains: "It was The General's Will that whoever bested him be offered a sheet of paper with a set of 'styles' on it depending on how The General Died and asked to chose one of the options on it, which each have specific implications for how He will rule the colony and what his purpose and provisions in it will be, do you wish me to explain them?"
"Very much so." You state and Selma Clears her throat.
"'Imperator' meaning 'leader' in Latin, was the word which over time became the basis of the term 'Emperor', and describes a style of rule where you are the sole executive authority of the colony, setting forth all of it's policy and making all executive decisions." She begins, outlining the first style.
"'Ceasar', derived from the name of the man who would be the fulcrum of turning Rome from a Republic into an Empire, describes a very similar style of rule, setting forth all of the colony's policy and making all executive decisions, but must be periodically re-acclaimed to the position by a vote of the members of the Armed Services." She continues.
"'Princeps': from which the term 'prince' is derived, is a title which if selected means you have declared yourself the sole and direct military commander of the colony and it's Garrison, and you will rule directly though military might, as did your predecessor." She goes on, listing the third option.
"'Tyrant' hearkens back to the days of the Roman Republic, and is a style who's avowed and stated purpose is to CEASE being in charge. Once the series of crisis which the colony is expected to face with the transition from The General's rule to a more democratic style of government is passed you have by selecting this style given your word that you will relinquish executive authority and return to civilian life, never having wanted to become executive in the first place." Selma states moving on to the 5th and final style.
"Also deriving from the Republic rather than imperium the term of 'Consul', while originally being part of an inefficient annual dairchy has been redefined by The General to be an elected post similar to the former presidency save that it is held by 3 people simultaneously who rule for 6 years terms as an executive council, each with authority to overrule the person elected immediately after them or in the case of he or she most recently elected to the position to overrule the most senior member. Each 6 year term is a singular honor, no one may ever serve as 'Consul' twice, and elections for a new member of the 'Consular Triumverate', are to be held biannually on even numbered years, with the person elected fully assuming the position on new years day of the following year. With the First Consular Triumverat having yourself be given a slightly shorter than six year term and the other two founding members being chosen by yourself to serve as 'consul suffectus' until they are replaced during the next two election years, with each being informed in advance how long their terms will be and thus establishing the proper order for executive overrule. In the event that his **** occurred during the starting three months of an election year you would instead have the option of picking two people to form a temporary Daiarchy while running for election for a full term as Consul should you pick this style, but that has not happened, I merely mention it for the sake of posterity."
"Now that you know what each of the terms would mean, which do you chose?" Selma asks, looking deep into your eyes.
And now you know, so: which is it?
