W3D1: Scavenging with Eunhwa

The four of them sat around the living room, the dim light of the rising sun casting soft shadows on the peeling wallpaper. The tension was palpable, the air heavy with unspoken fears and frustrations. Supplies were running low, and the realization that they couldn’t keep living like this hung over them like a storm cloud.

Noah leaned forward, resting his elbows on his knees. “We need to be more organized,” he began, his voice steady but firm. “We’re running out of food, and the last few scavenging runs haven’t been great. If we keep going like this, we’re not gonna make it.”

Eunhwa crossed her arms, sitting back on the threadbare couch. “You’re not wrong, but what’s the plan? We can’t all just wander around hoping to get lucky.”

“We divide tasks,” Noah said. He glanced at each of them in turn. “Eunhwa and I will handle scavenging. She’s quick and resourceful, and I can handle the heavier lifting. Greg, you’re good at hunting. We’ll need you to focus on bringing in whatever game you can find.”

Greg smirked, leaning back in his chair with an almost mocking ease. “Fine by me. I’ve been doing most of the work anyway.”

Noah ignored the jab and turned to Olivia. “You’ll stay here. Your medical skills are too important. If something happens to you, we’re all screwed. Besides, someone needs to keep the place secure while we’re out.”

Olivia frowned, her lips pressing into a thin line. “I don’t like the idea of sitting here while the rest of you are out risking your lives.”

“You’re not just sitting,” Noah reassured her. “You’ll be organizing supplies, treating any injuries, and making sure the house is safe. That’s just as important.”

“And what if something happens here while you’re all gone?” she challenged.

Greg chuckled, a low, almost dismissive sound. “Then scream loud enough, and maybe we’ll hear you.”

Eunhwa shot him a glare. “Shut up, dick.”

Noah exhaled, trying to keep his tone calm. “We’ll set up more defenses before we head out. The alarms I rigged with the cans will give you some warning if anything gets close. But this is the only way. We don’t have a choice.”

Silence fell over the room as the group processed his words. Olivia finally nodded, though her expression remained troubled. “Fine,” she said quietly. “But promise me you’ll be careful out there.”

“We will,” Noah assured her, his gaze softening.

Eunhwa gave a thumbs-up, her usual smile returning. “Don’t worry, Olivia. I’ll keep him in one piece.”

Greg stood, stretching lazily. “Great. I'm going to head out. Hope you’re all ready to pull your weight.”

As the group dispersed, Noah lingered, his mind racing with the weight of their survival. He just hoped it'll be enough to see another week.
