Vulcan

"Ah yes," the captain says, knowingly. "The Vulcan."

You feel her eyes appraise you in careful detail. A little too detailed, in fact, and you feel strangely uncomfortable.

"Have you gone through Ponn Far yet?"

You are shocked at her casual use of such a personal subject. Ponn Far was not spoken of among Vulcans, except under the veil of ritual, and even then, it was highly offensive to discuss it lightly.

The captain notices your discomfort. "I only ask because we will be in deep space for a long time in very dangerous conditions. I cannot afford to have a crew member go insane and need to find a mate in the middle of a battle."

Her concern is understandable, but the subject is still uncomfortable. Summoning control of your emotions, you respond, "I have not yet gone through that experience, Captain, but I have been approved to take Probarcium while on this mission."

Probarcium is a recently-approved medication that has shown good results in suppressing the once-every-seven-years mating drive of Vulcans.

The captain thinks for a moment. "All right. We will try it. But I want you to promise me that at the first sign of Ponn Far showing up, you will let me know immediately. I don't care how embarrassing it is for you. I won't risk the safety of this mission."

"Yes, Captain," you respond.
