Chapter 31 by SingingLark SingingLark

But how will Liandra enter the College? Will she announce herself?

Visibly

The princess saw no reason for trying to deceive the College with subterfuges, she would go unannounced, but wouldn't try to hide her identity.

From outside, the College was simply a large villa tending the surrounding orchards. It sat at the side of a hilltop, and didn't have any visible defenses beyond a meter tall wall. It was a sunny day, and she could see many gathering of people around the largest building.

"That is the way it normally is. Most classes are lectured outside, for most White Mages are taught to harvest their power from the Sun." Analia's tone didn't carry resentment, Liandra had feared for a moment after she decided to ignore her initial counsel. Analia was the only one who had visited the College before, so her presence and advices were invaluable.

"The second largest building, the pink one, has been traditionally held by the Abjurers. Specialists in protection magic, they weave and maintain many of the wards that shield our kingdom from our enemies."

"The circular white building" it wasn't anything much "is the ritual room of the Diviners. They have a fame for being secretive, but that is simply because their Art is so elusive, and it is hard to be sure of their readings." Analia paused, and after the princess asked for her to continue "I learned the trade under their auspice. I have some 'history' with Ragadash, the Reader. I will try to make certain it doesn't impact your visit" she was blushing and Liandra's curiosity was sparked. But she didn't want to pry, so instead asked "tell me about the one that leads the Abjurers"

"Lady Zanthia Wonstar. She has the zeal of a paladin, is absolutely brilliant, and probably the best teacher in the College." Liandra frowned, this didn't sound like the nest of vipers she had described earlier "She is also a war widow, so that is yet another reason for her to mistrust royalty. She is likely to oppose your efforts vigorously if she learns you came to learn sex magic. She sees it as beneath the dignity of true mages and offensive to the gods."

"Who else is there? Besides the Abjurers and the diviners"

"The Farmers. They are actually alchemists, but Yves prefers to call his followers that. They harvest magical plants, and use their fruits to brew potions that are sold all around the kingdom. Yves... would love nothing better than to bow to your every whim. Earn your trust."

"And finally there is Valyr, the Summoner. He always has just a single student, and he expects his new student to best his old one. He hates Lady Zanthia, and the feeling is mutual. He is over one hundred years old, and in my opinion his mind has been long gone"

The carriage was arriving, and Liandra would soon need to decide which Mage would she favor.

Which mage will Liandra favor?
