Viridian City

You keep heading along Route 1 to Viridian City. As you walk along next to Lacy, a young boy, clearly a bug trainer, jumps out. "I challenge you to a pokemon battle!" he exclaims, sending out a Caterpie. The Caterpie faces Lacy, who takes up a fighting stance. You try to gauge a reaction from the boy to your "pokemon" being a teenage girl, but he shows no reaction.

"I accept," you say, still trying to see what he is going to do.

His next action is to point at Lacy and commands his pokemon, "Bugly, use string shot!" His pokemon shoots out a strand of silk around Lacy, which she easily breaks through. It appears that people in this world readily accept her as your pokemon. She looks at you expectantly.

"Use tackle!" you shout. Her tackle overwhelms the small bug, and it faints.

"Drat!" the kid says, handing you over your winnings, a small amount of money. He looks at Lacy, "Next time I'll get you!" She sticks her tongue out at him.

"Not a chance, kid."

He grumbles, "I'm not a kid." Before walking off. So people accept Lacy as both a person and a pokemon. Very interesting.
