Violet returns to the Occult shop

Violet burst through the occult shop doors, the hefty spellbook she’d rented stowed securely in her backpack. Her rush to return to that place had been nearly as frantic as the flight that had brought her there originally, though this time she thankfully wasn’t being pursued by her longtime tormentors. She could barely contain her exuberance, fidgeting and foot-tapping as the gypsy shopkeeper finished dealing with a pair of customers. Once the patrons had concluded their business, Violet approached the front counter. “Ah, you’ve returned.” Esmeralda greeted the younger woman. “What has brought you back here, little mouse?” “It worked!” Violet blurted, but the gypsy cut her off before she could continue. “Hush, Violet. Please. Allow me to get us some privacy before you begin. That book is something I will only speak of behind closed doors…” Her tone was far from harsh. If anything, she sounded concerned, for both her own sake and for Violet’s.

Esmeralda looked surreptitiously out the glass of the storefront, checking for any imminent customers before locking the shop door and flipping the sign hung on it to the ‘closed’ side. She then gestured for Violet to follow her deeper into the shop. As the two women withdrew from the view of any possible passers by, Violet couldn’t help but grow uneasy at Esmeralda’s wariness, a fact clearly not lost on the gypsy as she began to explain the reason behind her great caution. “You likely remember from your first visit here that all of my… lewder wares are tucked away in the back reaches of this shop, and that is not without good reason. There are some who would see my doors closed for selling such things and I do not wish to take the risk, no matter how small, that they overhear us speaking of that tome.”

Once the pair had reached the out-of-the-way alcove at the store’s far end, Violet told Esmeralda of the miraculous (if exhausting) success she experienced testing the book’s magic on Samantha. “That was most impressive for your first spell, little mouse.” Esmeralda congratulated. “Though, if my memory serves me well, you have much more impressive things planned for yourself and that gold-haired pest, yes?” Violet’s face turned nearly as red as her hair as she recalled how much of her dark desires she’d let slip. Still, she managed to nod in reply. “Oh, there’s no need to be ashamed, I’ve heard stranger things in my time. We have all the privacy you could ever wish for and I hardly judge desires like yours. However, you could sidestep the need for numerous castings by combining the techniques for each change you wish for yourself and your tormentor into a pair of mystic rituals. Each one would be a more complex endeavor than the relatively simple spell you worked on your friend, though I doubt that would stop you.” “Are you sure it wouldn’t? What if I make a mistake and mess up the ritual?” Violet’s worry was obvious, and Esmeralda could hardly blame her. After all, the girl had a lot hinging on her success with a skill she’d only discovered was real only a few short days ago… “Would my presence during the rites quell your fears, Violet?” The gypsy inquired. “Then, should you err in your casting, I can help right your work.” “I… I think that would help.” Violet answered. “Would you mind coming to my house to spot me?
