Vi’s and Heidi’s catch up
“Wow.” Erik says, putting Vi’s pone back into her outstretched palm, “Did you have to bag me out?” He asks with a laugh.
Vi takes her phone back and grins, swatting his knee. “Well of course. You are a MAN.” She giggles, kicking her feet as if she just said the funniest thing in the world.
Erik scoffs and rolls his eyes, putting his arms back on his bed. He watches as Vi stands back up and pulls off her track pants in favour of a nice pair of grey jeans. “Where’d this come from?”
“Well, you said it was ending soon.” She grins, sliding her top off, exposing her bra-clad chest. “I want to get to know her better and hear her talk about this man.” She slides a casual tee on, turning to him. “It’s genuinely an innocent hang out.”
He narrows his eyes. “I thought that before…” He stares as she grins widely. “But now that you’ve said that, I find it hard to believe.”
She shrugs, putting her hands under her chin, she kicks her leg up, trying to look as innocent as possible. “Naw daddy doesn’t believe me?” Her lips turn downwards in mock sadness.
“Ewwwww. Don’t do cutesy shit like that.” Erik laughs. “It’s waaaay too kidlike.”
She snorts with laughter, dropping her hands and sitting on the edge of the bed, pulling her shoes on. “No genuinely though. Since you’ll be fucking her less. It’d be nice to see if we can be friends apart from teasing her about you.” She looks up at Erik. “I mean, you two are friends? You’ll still hang out now and then right?”
Erik shrugs. “Uhm. I hadn’t thought of that… But I think so, yeah. She’s still my gig bud. And I still see her at the gym occasionally too.”
She clicks her fingers. “Exactly. And if she gets along with you, I think she and I will get along too.”
Erik scratches his forehead. “Yeah, you get along with everyone though. You could drag a conversation out of a wooden board.”
Vi’s mouth opens, taken aback slightly. “Only you could say that with an insulting tone.” She teases, putting a hand on her chest. “Thank you for the compliment.” She says pointedly.
Erik laughs, shifting on the bed so he’s head is resting against the headrest. “You going to be late, you think?”
She shrugs. “Depends how wild Heidi and I get, I suppose.”
“Yeah, she’s a real firecracker that one.” Erik lightly teases. Somewhere across campus Heidi sneezes.
“Maybe not with you.” She sticks out her tongue, grabbing a small casual shoulder bag. “Loser.”
“I’ll get a margarita, please!” Vi says, smiling at the man-bun millennial coded waiter, “Heidi?” Vi asks, turning to her friend.
Heidi purses her lips, her asymmetrical hair falling onto her shoulder as she scans the drinks menu for a last-minute change in drink choice. “Could I please have a Cosmo?” She turns to Vi, “Do you want some snacks?”
Vi responds. “I could eat.”
Heidi smiles and asks for a serving of calamari and focaccia.
Vi watches the waiter walk away before leaning forward to whisper to Heidi. “That guy would look so good without a man bun.”
Heidi smirks, cupping her hand over her mouth. “Oh my god, I was thinking the same! He’s got such a handsome face, but that hair…”
The girls giggle together.
Vi leans back and smiles at the girl. “I’m glad we’re hanging out, away from everything else.”
Heidi blushes. “What, ever, could you be referring to?” She laughs.
Vi laughs and waves her hand dismissively. “He’s old news for you now, right?”
Heidi’s face only reddens. “I wouldn’t put it like that!” She protests. “We’ll still be friends, I hope. He’s my gig bud.” Her eyes seem a little sad.
Vi reassures her, noting that she used the same nickname he did, clearly, they’ve come up with that between themselves. “You don’t need to worry about that.”
Heidi looks up.
“I actually asked him about that.” Vi explains. “He considers you one of his good friends, he still wants to hang out with you after… Well. The current relationship ends.”
Vi watches, curious to see Heidi blush again, her hand absentmindedly fiddling with a long piece of her hair. “Oh, I’m glad…”
Hmm
“Anyway.” Vi says after receiving and thanking the waiter for their drinks. She takes a sip. “Tell me about… Logan?”
Heidi smiles widely, nodding. “Oh yes. He’s great…”
She continues to gush about him, reiterating to Vi this time, how they met, what’s been going on, how cute and handsome he is, and the way he treats not just her but everyone. She makes particular reference to his toned body, contrasting with his gentle and patient personality.
‘Is this what I look like when I talk about Erik? Damn. It’s cute as hell.’
Vi smiles, picking at the calamari that gets brought to their table, happy to listen to the girl so clearly falling for a man. The more Heidi talks, the more he sounds like a different font of Erik, which Vi can’t help but feel a bit interested in.
“Can I see a picture?” Vi asks.
Vi nods in approval as Heidi turns her phone towards her. “Wow, you’ve got great taste, girl!”
He’s hot. Vi is comfortable enough to admit that. Not as hot as Erik of course. And, quite a bit different. At least Heidi didn’t just find a man who is similar in personality, vibe AND looks.
Vi waits for Heidi to finish chewing the bread before delving into the question she’s most curious to know the answer to. “Heidi. Once he does ask you, officially, to be his girlfriend.” Heidi blushes, seeming to know what’s coming. “You’re going to end it with Erik, right? That’s the vibe?”
Heidi’s hesitation speaks volumes to Vi. “I mean… Of course I will…” She says softly, picking up another piece of bread to toy with between her fingers. “I’m not a cheater…”
“Neither is Erik.” Vi reminds.
Heidi smiles, deep in thought. “I don’t know… If I could be like you two, in my own relationship.” She looks up, blushing. “No offence.”
“None taken at all, babes.”
Heidi looks down at the bread, and then up again. “I’ll miss the fun.” She admits. “But… I want… something …”
“Real? Your own?”
She nods in reply.
“I mean, I get it. Have you two been on dates yet?”
Heidi nods. “Just one. It was just the movies. He hasn’t asked me the question yet.”
“You want him to? To ask you properly?”
Heidi nods, blushing, pressing her fingers to her cheeks. “Yes… Is that lame? I’ve just never been asked before like that…”
Vi waves her hands, “Not at all! It’s super cute! I think it’s so sweet when a guy asks! It’s special!”
Vi tilts her head. “So you’re waiting for that then? For him to ask, and then you’ll end it with Erik?”
Heidi nibbles her bottom lip and nods. “Yes…. I’m still… Technically… Single.”
“Well.” Vi’s smile morphs to a cheeky grin. “How about you make your next night with Erik a bit more special?”
‘You better thank me properly for this, Erik. I’m such a good wingwoman.’
“Special? How?”
Vi gives her a teasing look. “Record it. Keep the memory.”
Heidi’s entire face goes red, freezing like she just got caught with her hand in the cookie jar.
“Keep the memory?” She repeats… Not instantly dismissing the idea.
Vi nods. “Who knows when Logan will ask you out officially. Record it. Something to look back on.”
‘Oh boy, You owe me, big time for this.’
“Aaaand.” Vi whispers. “If you decide to record it, I permit you to kiss him. Only on video though.”
Heidi’s eyes go wide, unable to meet Vi’s gaze. “Does he… Want to kiss me?”
Vi grins. “I reckon so.” Vi clarifies. “Obviously. I’ll be watching that video too. So if you record it, keep that in mind.”
Heidi squeezes the bread between her fingers, lost in thought body vibrating with nerves. A few weeks ago, Vi would’ve expected her to dismiss the idea as too wild immediately. She doesn’t quite carry that same surprise anymore, not with the current version of the girl sitting in front of her.
