Chapter 38 by The Dark Traveler The Dark Traveler

How does the challenge go

Very bad

You reached the Plato and saw a challenging ground marked with 4 white marble pillars with grooves carved into them. the look like they would have supported a roof but it had collapsed at some point there were chunks of it pushed to the sides of the field. behind it from your point of view was the well-kept walls to the city and a large gatehouse inset into the wall. Orange Dragon-kin patrolled the battlements. It was early afternoon and the sun was hot, heat raining down on the exposed Plato.

The gates opened and out came an envoy of Orange Dragon-kin. Through the gate you caught a glimpse of the city it seemed to be mainly constructed of stone with pillars being a key architectural feature. However, the city looked like a ruin, not though siege or battle but just neglect.

A large Orange Dragon-kin stepped on to the battlefield and without speaking beckoned for a challenger to step forward. He was a hulking dragon-kin standing over 8 feet tall he had a draconic head with a large, orange crested helmet, bare human torso with abs and a 6 pack, his arms were muscly and covered in orange scales, his clawed hands grasping at a short sword and large round metal shield with the letter R flanked by two fists indented into it. His legs were scaly and he was barefooted. Between his legs, he wore only a sword belt revealing to the world his impressive and intimidating dragon member. He declared himself Leonidas undefeated Leader of the Orange Clutch (neglecting to mention the time he was defeated by Butrexx).

You had chosen Brett the 4th of his name Second Son of Lord Brett Brettson. he was of average height but built like an ox. You had selected Brett for this fight as you thought it a good match as Leonidas was also strongly built and you had heard he relied mainly on his strength in combat. Brett had long blond hair that he had tied back in a plait to keep it out the way in combat. He also had a long platted beard. He wore light chain mail and a helmet carrying a round wooden shield and an axe. He stepped onto the field.

Leonidas let out an intimidating and primal "ROARRRRR!" as he did this he breathed out an orange mist. The mist surrounded his body and seemed to seep into his muscles. His eyes changed from brown to orange. He charged at Brett sword raised.

His first blow shattered Brett's shield the blade sticking into what was left. Brett tossed it into the mud switching to using his axe with two hands. Leonidas seemed to be attempting to batter Brett with his shield. This onslaught lasted until Brett was able to hook his axe over the shield and twist it out of the dragon-kin's grip.

Weaponless and defenseless, without even armour Leonidas was at a clear disadvantage but unlike Brett showed no fatigue. "I have disarmed you, you are defenseless, surrender now or face the bite of my axe!" shouted Brett.

"Never!" Retorted Leonidas. Saying this he released more of the orange missed. His still orange eyes seemed to mist over, the orange taking over the whites and pupils not just the iris, his muscles seemed to bulge with extra power. "Aaaaarrrrr!" he roared. Leonidas went into a frenzy fueled by the fighting spirit dragon magic. No wonder, in days past, the orange dragons were thought of as savage and mindless beasts. He first broke the handle of Brett's axe as he swung it at his legs. Then before Brett could react, tore through his chain mail straight into the man's chest. At this moment you looked away in shock as the Dragon-kin proceeded to savagely attack the now dead Brett.

Eventually, to your side, you heard Butrexx shout "Leonidas! The man is dead! You have won the challenge. Therefore it is your right to challenge me for rulership of your own lands separate from the great empire of Arxkesttelgdn! Or if you wish you could start a campaign to claim the empire." This was one of the reasons that the empire had lost so much land since the dragons time. Ever so often some Dragon-kin would win a challenge and instead of challenging all the other clutches just take some of the land. However, without rules of succession, the land was normally reconquered or left ungoverned to be conquered by an outside ****. This is how the empire had lost most of the northern lands and the great forest.

Brett's dead body was removed and you went to talk to your wife who was preparing to battle Leonidas. You are concerned that she is risking not only her life but the lives of her unborn child and the rest of the challengers. From what you saw and what you refused to watch Leonidas is a vicious monster who should be put to ****; not be allowed to fight your pregnant wife and possibly the other combatants. Even she had defeated him in the past she was different now and much more valuable.

How is your wife.
