Vanessa lies

Lauren stumbled out of the auditorium. Vanessa followed her out, trying to suppress her own laughter.

"Great job dancing." Vanessa said.

"Are you kidding?!" Everyone was laughing!" Lauren shrieked. She was more frazzled now then ever. Her hair was a total wreck, sticking up in a wild bird's nest.

"Nah, people were just having a good time!" Vanessa said. "You looked great, I'm sure everyone was impressed."

There was a reason Vanessa was lying. She was starting to understand Lauren's psychology better. She was realizing she could make Lauren continue to humiliate herself is she kept building up her pride. Lauren wanted to think she was perfect: She wanted everyone to be attracted to her. She wanted think she was amazing: it took little effort to give her false ego. Even now Vanessa could see Lauren take in her words and calm down, where moments ago she'd been close to tears.

"Well... that's good." Lauren said, a little unsure, still embarrassed, but wanting to believe her sister.

"Of course! Now, you're sweating like a pig!" Vanessa pointed out. "Let's get you to a shower..."
