Chapter 72 by Mr Nice Guy Mr Nice Guy

What's next?

Vanessa's Heartbreak

Once the car had passed, Vanessa hurried across the street away from her daughter's boyfriend. She didn't want him to see her cry. She was a grown woman, for goodness sakes! The last thing she wanted was for Tim to think she was a blubbering mess. That was not how Vanessa wanted to be known by this man who, despite her decision, still made her burn between the legs.

Vanessa had spend her entire adult life working to overcome one big mistake she had made in her teenage years, the one moment she had given herself over to passion rather than to the careful planning that had been the hallmark of her adolescence. Of course, that mistake had given her Nancy, her beautiful daughter, but what would her life have been had she waited. Could she have ended up in a loving, stable relationship like so many of her friends from those days? Would the struggles of the early days been easier with a partner to support her, to care for her, or even pragmatically, to share the financial burden of raising a young woman?

Of course things would have been different. But would Vanessa, in retrospect, have changed things? She was successful, she loved her daughter, she had her own life with her own plans, she even had this smoking hot new boyfriend....

No, wait.

No she didn't.

A sob rose up from her chest and sounded too loudly. Tears were now freely flowing down her cheeks. The sound of heels on the pavement behind her, the sound of Tim approaching, made her speed up her pace. What she really wanted was to be alone. Why was she crying?! She hardly knew Tim! Yes, they'd had a great date together, and yes, the night in bed together had been even better, but he was practically a stranger! At this point, he could have easily been a one-night-stand, not a relationship that would merit this type of emotional outburst. What was it about Tim that made her feel so emotional, so **** about losing him? Was it purely physicality? His long, sexy legs? His huge succulent breasts? His huge thick cock?

It was hope. That's what it was. Vanessa had, for a brief moment in time, allowed herself past the walls that she had built to protect her heart and permitted hope to penetrate deep inside. She had hoped that Tim would be someone special for her, that she would finally have the thing that she was cheated out of as a young woman. Tim was a young, incredibly attractive, commanding man. Everything that Vanessa had in her life was fought for, tooth and nail. Tim was that lost partner, the confident that she had needed for so long, the person who made her feel loved, sexy, excited.

Or at least she had hoped so.

But she had gone too far, flown too close to the sun, and the wax wings of her pragmatism had melted. She'd hoped for far too much. Then she'd heard Nancy and Tim together, and she discovered that she had overestimated her generosity, her ability to overcome jealousy and selfishness. She wanted Tim all to herself, and if she couldn't have him in totality, she would reject him wholeheartedly.

Another sob escaped her lips at the thought. She was weak. Too weak. For the first time in a long time, Vanessa hated herself.

Then she felt a hand on her shoulder. She turned and found herself looking into the beautiful eyes of her former lover. He had given himself a classic cat eye that morning, and had used a dark mascara, making his eyes seem so big, so emotional. She wanted to stop this madness, to give into hope, to kiss him there on the spot. A man as strong as Tim came along so rarely in life. The temptation to give herself over to him was so great, but the pain of the night before was so fresh that she didn't dare.

Then he spoke.
