"How interesting." Vaatu thought as sensed the changing world. Raava and her Avatar had disappeared from the world. Going to sleep under the ice of the south pole and in her their absense a war had broken out amongst the human world that had destroyed it and disturbed the spirits.

No light....and lots of chaos.

Yes...it could be his chance now.

Vaatu concentrated his power. He may not be able to escape completely but with this situation he can make a hole and let his essence flow out. Using all his might, thedark spirit tried to find a suitable soul to latch on to. They didn't need to be any specific requirement. All he needed was a vessel who had some form of darkness in their heart.

After a few moments....he found it. Grabbing on to the soul he latched on.
