Unintended consequences

"Bollocks," Constantine said.

Zari yelped.

"Don't say that! Say something good, say you got rid of it, say-" Zari swallowed. Oh god, she was babbling.

"John?" Sara said.

"Call it a sixth sense," John said. "Hair on the back of my neck's on end. Something's definitely hanging around."

"I saw the dog-" Sara said.

"Yeah, that thing's gone, good riddance," John said. "Still something- oh shit."

He moved back, glancing around, before moving towards the grimoire he'd left on the table. Zari nervously tilted her head, not sure whether she should stop laying on her back.

As much as she desperately wanted to cover up, she wanted to get rid of this... thing more.

"John?" Sara said.

"Bollocking buggering shite-"

"John!" Sara said.

"Good news, I fit right in with you screw-ups," John said.

"And the bad news?" Zari said. God, she really was just whimpering now.

"I thought that thing was weak," John said. "Proper Eden-era spirit could get you out of your clothes faster than a stiff drink. This thing struggled. But the dog was everywhere, and... shite. This thing, the only being that matches its description is that myth I told you about, the beast that refused to be named by Adam. So why in the hell would it look like a dog?"

"So the dog was just some unrelated thing we banished?" Sara said.

Constantine loosened his already-loose tie.

"So, there's this beast," John said. "Refused to bow before Adam and accept what he said. Nameless, and so formless, shapeless, limitless. Matches to a tee. Doesn't like Adam, probably got on with Eve or Lilith or whenever the hell it hung around. So when it got out, it'd want to do women a favour, and it'd have more than enough power to do so. Get them to the state they were in, in the 'good old days.' Which obviously didn't happen."

"Can you fast forward to the point where I get to put some clothes on?!" Zari yelped.

"Something stopped it," Constantine said. "And I have a sneaking suspicion that something was the dog."

"You mean the dog you just killed," Sara said.

"We, less of the you," Constantine said. He coughed awkwardly. "But... yes. The dog kept showing up, not because it was our little friend, but because it was guarding us from it."

"And now it's gone?" Sara said. "What now?!"

Zari's eyes widened.

"My guess, as soon as it realises it's power is as good as unlimited again-" John began.

Zari screwed her eyes shut, somehow knowing there was about to be a surge of light.

Oh god, and she'd thought this was almost over. Of all the times for the normal Legends luck to kick in...

She sat up. No point in pretending the ritual was going to do anything then; she pulled her knees up against her chest, clutching her legs tightly together. She bit her lip, whimpering slightly.

Naked. Still naked.

And when she opened her eyes, she was greeted with the sight of Sara and Ava both suddenly in the same predicament. Apparently, now unlimited, the nameless spirit had decided to share its 'help.' Zari was greeted by the sight of far more of her captain and her captain's girlfriend than she ever wanted to see.

Of Nate, Ray, Mick, Gary and Constantine however, there was no sign. Maybe they'd just been moved somewhere, that was a... possibility. Either way though, it meant they'd lost their expert on the supernatural, rendering a second attempt at the ritual (if there even was a way to banish this thing now) as good as impossible.

Unlike Sara and Ava, Zari didn't stare, fidgeting nervously and lowering her gaze. Maybe she could pretend she was alone, that she wasn't still stark naked surrounded by her friends, that she didn't seem to be well and truly stuck like this-

She heard Sara and Ava's shared yelp of shock, one she could sympathise with all too well, and could only tighten her grip on her legs and hope she could at the very least keep what little modesty that gave her.

Fuck. They couldn't be stuck like this forever, could they?
