Unfortunately, yes.
As much as it makes you cringe, you have to agree that, yes, she got all of that right.
"Yes, ma'am," you mumble.
"I'm sorry, you were so quiet," says Rebecca's mother.
"Yes, ma'am, all of that is correct," you say louder, your voice trembling.
Rebecca's mother ponders for a moment, sitting back with a manicured red nail tapping her cheek.
"I have one request," she says. "Ma'am sounds so awfully formal. I want you to call me Mommy."
She is smiling warmly now, brilliant teeth and dimples on full display.
